About Shawn
Hello there My name is Shawn and I am a Maremma Sheepdog. I arrived to the RSPCA as an injured stray with a badly broken leg that has been fixed since then. I spent quite some time in the hospital and I was on cage rest for a few weeks. I am allowed to exercise now but the vets say that my leg might never be perfect again. I still need ongoing physiotherapy to help my leg function as smoothly as possible.I am quite placid and like to lay around a lot with my foster parents. I am a well-socialised and friendly pup who has met a variety of people dogs as well as a range of new environments. I have also been introduced to livestock but if you want me to work on a farm you need to continue my socialisation with other animals. I know I am very cute and handsome but I am not for the beginner dog owner. My new family must have previous experience with flock guardian breeds because we're quite unique. I will need a knowledgeable owner who understands my breed characteristics and can provide me with a job as well as including me in daily family activities.Maremma sheepdogs are an ancient Italian flock guardian breed used for the protection of livestock and guarding property. I am still a handsome young puppy but I will grow into a giant breed and my adult weight can reach up to 45 kilograms. My breed is known as loyal trustworthy attentive and protective. This means I might be wary of strangers and if I see something unusual I WILL bark. This is natural for my breed so if you live in a busy neighbourhood I might not be the most neighbour-friendly companion. In fact I would love to go home to a family with a big yard acreage or a farm where I could perform my natural behaviours and that is to look after my family animal friends property anything. I can easily entertain myself when I am alone. I love to chew on branches or pigs' ears and these can keep me busy for a long time. I have been digging a few small holes in the garden but if you provide me with a digging pit you could redirect my urge to rearrange your garden. If you would like to see me in person and you meet the below requirements please give the Foster Care Team a call on 9770 7503 as I am currently in foster care.LARGE YARDFLOCK GUARDIAN BREED EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGESPEAK TO VET AT ADOPTIONONGOING PHYSIOTHERAPY
