Gus ~ Bulldog (trial 9/10/15)

Introducing Gus - a typical goofy bulldog who is 3.5 years old. Gus is a people dog who loves his humans and is eager to please you. Gus has some fun tricks up his sleeve to charm you - he shows off by shaking hands (what a gentleman!) , he gives you a High-Five (because even gentlemen can be dudes too!) and he rolls around on his back with his toys (to show you he's also a goofball!). It's hard not to fall in love with his antics and big bulldog smile.

Gus is in foster care with a couple of pugs and loves to play with them - they are medium-energy, small dogs which is a good match for Gus. He can get over excited with high-energy big dogs to the point he misinterprets their excited play and will try to dominate them. Gus’s ideal doggy companion would be a small adult female - he definitely prefers the company of the petite ladies and he prefers them to be out of cheeky, pesky puppy stage! After a day of playing with his canine siblings he loves to snuggle up with them for the night - usually spooning the little ones to get cosy!

Gus is very fond of males - he would ideally suit a single male who could take him to work with him or even work from home. \ He would also suit a settled couple where someone is home a lot so that he has companionship. Gus does not suit a household where he is left on his own as he gets anxious - this stress of isolation has previously lead to some physical medical issues. With companionship these medical issues have now healed beautifully - this gorgeous boy is so people focused that he just thrives with someone home a lot of the time. He is better suited to a home with teenage children as toddlers and younger kids are too much for him.

Gus is an energetic bundle of love and he absolutely loves to play fetch with you in the yard. If you have a quiet park close by then he'll love to join you on adventures to the park too. He finds off-lead dog parks overwhelming and a little crazy with many dogs - so he prefers quieter outings where he can meet people or other dogs with a calm, controlled introduction. Gus is an inside dog who enjoys to hang out in the yard for a few hours of sunshine after which he prefers to come inside to see what his humans are up to and spend time with them.

Gus is a real sweetie at heart and like most dogs he responds best when he has rules and boundaries. Having a regular daily routine helps with his anxiety of being left alone - he is currently on anti-depressant medication to help him adjust with being left alone and he has improved greatly with this therapy. Gus would love a confident and calm furever family who will understand that he has special needs and who can work with him to improve and overcome his stresses. Gus would respond well to further positive reinforcement training with his new family - training which will mentally stimulate him and keep him active too.

He is not available for adoption long distance or interstate as his foster carer will need to help Gus transition to his new home.
