About Lady ~ Shih Tzu X Silky Terrier (on trial 13/7/15)
Lady is a 13 year old shih tzu x silky terrier. Lady came into the care of Dog Rescue Newcastle when her owner sadly passed away and she was left in the pound. DRN rescued her and she is now in foster in Lake Macquarie NSW.
Despite the shock of all this, Lady has bounced back and is now ready to find a new forever home! She is currently living with three other small dogs in her foster home who she gets along with, however, she would be most suited to being an only dog and ideally a companion dog as she is just the right size to be a lap dog! Lady loves to sit on the lounge and watch TV with you or follow you around the house. She will happily curl up and fall asleep on your lap.
Despite being 13 years old, Lady has been enjoying a daily walk whilst in care and is improving with not pulling on the lead as she becomes more accustomed to wearing a harness. Lady will let you know when she needs to go outside to wee. She has had the odd accident inside but is improving every day. She is currently sleeping inside, in a crate with lots of blankets and also wears a coat at night to keep her little body warm.
Lady has a low shed coat that is very easy to care for. She happily stands still whilst being brushed and does not mind the bath at all!
Whilst in foster care Lady has slipped her knee out of place on one occasion, the knee slipped back in by itself. The vet said it may happen again but does not require treatment, she does have some pain relieving drops to take if it occurs again.
Lady would best suit being an only dog, she is gentle and loving, she will make a great companion and is undemanding, she will only bark to let you know that someone is outside.
Lady is an inside dog, she must sleep inside and have access to outside during the day. She is ok being alone during the day but if she is an only dog would most likely suit someone who is home during the day.
Lady is in foster care in Lake Macquarie. Her adoption fee is only $200 because of her senior status and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping and lifetime registration. To meet Lady, please contact her foster carer, Robyn by emailing rstarkey@nswnma.asn.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
