Hatchi ~ Adopted 9/6/15

Hatchi is a small 12 month old blue heeler x. Hatchi is mixed with a smaller breed as he’s very small for a blue heeler. He is a lovely natured boy that is a little shy with new people at first yet very inquisitive and friendly with them. He loves people and would suit an active family who will allow him to join in on fun games or outings. He likes to follow you around the house - but once he realizes you are doing boring housework, he will find something else to keep him entertained – like playing with toys or finding a sunny patch in the garden to relax.

Hatchi loves to play with squeaky toys (his favourite is a squeaky bone), footballs and tennis balls, so he would suit a family that has a medium to large backyard where he has room to run around and play fetch. \ He also enjoys a game of tug-of-war, he does a typical doggy play growl as he tries to win – there’s no aggression in it though. After a good play in the yard he loves to snuggle and watch TV with you. He is a gentle soul that loves night time cuddles and he’ll crawl on top of you like a lap dog if you let him.

Hatchi will whine a little when everyone leaves for the day but he will settle quickly. He has been with children in foster care from 4 to 14 years and he is great with them as long as the kids are aware that they cannot hug him unless he comes and sits or lays on them and then only gently. \ If they hug him too tight he feels uncomfortable. For this reason he is best suited to a family with older children who can understand that he prefers not to be hugged tightly. He does love kids and when the kids in his foster home get home from school he gets very excited and encourages them to play with him and his toys.

Hatchi prefers to sleep inside at night with his humans, however he will sleep outside in a cosy kennel if required. He has a blankie that he likes to sleep on. He’s toilet trained when inside. He’s not a barker and he will usually only bark to let you know that someone has come to the door. \ He is suitable for 5-6 foot fencing to keep him safe if everyone goes to school or work during the day.

When Hatchi first came into foster care he had no lead manners at all, when out walking he can be very confrontational with other dogs when on the lead. His foster family are working on his lead manners to reduce this unwanted behavior which is the result of poor socialization as he’s been growing up. Hatchi’s new family will need to continue working on his lead manners with positive reinforcement training techniques. Hatchi is currently an only dog, however, with proper and positive introductions to other dogs this may change. He is only a young dog and just needs commitment from someone to catch up on the dog socialization that he was deprived from earlier. Hatchi is in foster care with chickens and pays them no interest.

Hatchi thrives on a good diet of cooked rice, veggies, raw meat, chicken necks and kibble. Chicken necks are his favourite and he can’t get enough of them. He also likes treats which can be used for further training. Hatchi is an affectionate young dog who would love a family to commit to helping him to be a well-rounded and well trained adult dog.
