Jasper ~ Jack Russell (on trial 14/6/15)

Hi there, let me introduce myself. My name is Jasper and I am a bright, energetic 1 year old Jack Russell Terrier. I love running very fast with my foster brother Dasher.

Thanks to my foster parents, I am learning how to be a good dog for my new family when I find them and I currently know how to: come, sit, drop, go to bed, wait to start eating until I'm told (except I still have to jump first so you know how excited I am about food. Food is my favourite!), do a wee and go do poo. I am working on some others as I pick things up very quickly. \ It has only taken me 4 weeks to learn everything I know now!

I am toilet trained but still have the odd accident as I'm still learning. I am very smart and learn new things quickly. I can use a doggy door and love being able to come and go as I please. I always choose to sleep inside with my foster brothers and sister rather than staying outside all night. I would like to be the boss dog in my new family but I do respect other dogs if they insist on being the one in charge. I love people and can't wait to meet my new family because I am really excited to have my own people to snuggle with on the couch.

I like the small children who I have met but I get very excited about dinner time and start jumping so I could be a bit intimidating until I learn this is not what I should be doing. I'm getting there, but this one is taking longer because dinner is the most exciting thing!

Even though I am a terrier, I don't seem to have a very strong hunting instinct. I have met cats and would like to play with them. I am a bit confused about why cats don't want to sniff my bottom when I sniff theirs and why they get angry and run away if I ask them to play chasings but I have not tried to bite or attack them. \ I have also met a ferret and a duck who were confusing but I still really wanted them to play with me. There are also horses where I am staying and I think they are great. I love sniffing their noses and having them snuffle me but I do bark at them sometimes because I am so excited to see them. I am learning not to do this. I get on well with all dogs I have met, even big ones but I can be a bit growly if I get nervous as I am still learning how to make friends.

I currently live on a property with my foster family so I get a lot of exercise exploring new things. I have a 1/4 acre yard with sheep wire and I have not tried to climb or dig out as I have been busy and entertained. I would prefer to live somewhere with secure, high fencing as I would probably be tempted to escape if I got bored. I would like to be able to go walkies every day at least once for at least 45 minutes as this helps me to get out my energy and be calmer in the house.
