About Major Nelson - Would thrive as an only dog!
Introducing Major Nelson, a 1 year old German Wire-haired Pointer …aka goofy oversize puppy with a beard!
Nelson is a VERY large excitable puppy. He is goofy, will make you laugh and keep you on your toes.
He would benefit from and experienced owner who is confident in training and enjoys a challenge.
He has so much potential as he’s a very smart boy, is happy to amuse himself when his person is at work during the day as long as he gets a daily walk (or maybe two).
He’s happy in our yard while we are out and has made no attempt to escape but due to his size tall fences are recommended as he would have no trouble standing up and peering out if he decided to.
He absolutely loves other dogs as it brings out the puppy in him but this can be too much for them some times, he’s still learning his doggy manners and due to his tall stature he can be dominate in his play. (harmless but intimidating, particularly to small dogs)
I believe finding him a forever home as an only dog would benefit him best as this would mean he can focus on his training and his person will become the center of his world. He gets far too excited & distracted when other dogs are around.
He thrives on learning and is food motivated so responds well to training if treats are involved.
He knows how to sit and drop, and has been crate trained while in foster care so sleeps all night in his crate. We don’t think Nelson has been allowed indoors much but is progressing with his toilet training; this will need to continue this if he is to be an inside dog.
If you’re looking for a handsome boy who turns heads down the street and are prepared to invest in the training and love this boy deserves, please come and meet him as I guarantee you will fall in love with his gentle giant goofy human like personality.
I don’t recommend Nelson goes to a home with small children as he doesn’t understand his size and is just too excitable at the moment. I see him best suited to a single person or couple without children who want a dog to hang out with take camping or to visit friends etc. They need to be active and confident with large breed dogs.
Are you up for the challenge? - He will reward you with a life time of love laughs and loyalty I promise!
No cats please as he is just too rough and might hurt them accidentally.
