Merlot ~ On Trial 27/5/15

Merlot is a gorgeous little white and black cattle dog x puppy who is 8 weeks old. We think Merlot and his siblings may be crossed with border collie or even kelpie as some of his siblings are black and white, and Merlot has typical kelpie tan markings on one side of his face. Merlot is mostly white with a big black patch on one side of his face, with some tan rouge on his check and tan eyeshadow. Merlot is such a cheeky boy, he loves running around the house as fast as he can and tackling his siblings! He is such a happy puppy all the time. His tail is always wagging 24/7.

Merlot is such a brave boy and doesn't seem scared of much. He’s in foster care with siblings Cala and Cheddar, and 2 other adult dogs and he’s friendly with all of them. He’s also in foster care with cats and 2 children. He always wants to join in playing with his doggy friends and his foster carers’ children. He’s also happy to say hi to any visitors and promptly curl on their lap for cuddles and a quick nap. He absolutely loves cuddles and will happily fall asleep in anyone’s arms when he's tired.

Being a puppy, he is obviously quite mischievous and will find the odd item to chew which he shouldn't, but he is learning the word 'no' very quickly. He is also learning to ‘sit’. Merlot sleeps inside in a crate with his siblings overnight and he’s still learning to sleep the whole night through.

Merlot would really love a furever home with a friendly playful dog as a playmate and a good role model. Although he loves playing, he also enjoys his sleeping and it’s not surprising to find him suddenly falling asleep after a hard day of playing. He’s only new to toilet training as he’s still just a baby, so his new family will need to continue to train him on where to go to the toilet.

Merlot would best suit a furever home with another dog or someone who is home a lot. He needs to be allowed inside when his family is home and sleep inside. He is very social and too young to be left alone for long periods of time. He would love to go to puppy-training classes when he’s a little older as training and socialization will give him the best start in life. He will need plenty of affection, exercise, and training from my new family to help in grow and develop.

Merlot’s sister Cala and brothers Cheddar, Ryder and Talon are also available for adoption.

Merlot will need to be returned to our Central Coast rescue vet for desexing when he’s a little bigger.
