Whippet Chocolate ~ On Trial 12/6/15

Hi there! I'm Whippet Chocolate, and just like my funky name I'm a unique boy who's full of character. I'm a 1 year old kelpie x boy who loves life and adores my humans - my favourite spot in the world is to be by your side. I'm a very good looking boy (if I say so myself) and things are always better when you add chocolate right?

I'm a fun loving active boy who also enjoys my chill out time with you in front of the TV. When the sun sets and there's a chill in the air, I'll join you on the couch to watch a bit of reality TV - My Kitchen Rules and House Rules are my favourites. Even though I'm a medium size dog, I sometimes think I'm a poodle sized lap-dog and I will crawl up on to the couch with you for a snuggle if you let me.

I'm a fan of cuddles and if you pat that soft spot on my ears or give me a belly rub I'll be your best friend forever! I'm very well-mannered with children - I'm in foster care with a 5 month old baby and I'm very gentle and don't crowd or jump too much. \ I also play well with kids in the yard. I love tennis balls, if you don't throw it for me I'm OK with that as I'll just chuck it around and keep myself entertained playing on my own.

I would really love a furever family who are active and will involve me in outdoors activities. I love car rides and will watch the world go past with my tongue hanging out with a smile on my face. \ If you're a jogger or a daily walker, I'd love to join you for as far as you want to go. I'm still learning to walk gently on a harness as I find all the sights and smells so exciting when we're out but with a daily walk and routine I settle into a good pace once my initial excitement wears off. As long as I'm by your side I'll go wherever you want to go. I was rescued from a small country pound, so I am still getting used to the noise of suburban life. I can get a little nervous when cars drive close to us when out walking. Sometimes they startle me so I will plant my feet and growl at the car until it passes. It's a weird reaction, but after coming from a quiet town, it’s a little quirk that you can help desensitise me to with positive reinforcement and treats.

I'm a pretty good sleeper and I'll spread myself out on the bed, couch or a doggy bed on the floor. Although I'd prefer to sleep inside, if I have a cosy warm kennel outside I'll sleep there too - I really am quite adaptable like that. My foster mum says that my ideal backyard would be one in which I can have a good run around - being a kelpie cross I would adore living on acreage too! I'm not a fence jumper so normal 5 foot fencing is perfect for me, or if you live on acreage 4 foot dog mesh should be fine too.

I like other dogs and I'd happily settle into a home with another friendly medium size dog like me to run around and play with. I love my food - you could never call me a fussy eater! I'm treat and reward focused so I respond well if you bribe me with treats (we all know food is the way to a man's heart, right?). I can get a little nervous when meeting strangers for the first time but with pats and treats it doesn't take long for them to win my heart. I really like men as I'm a bit of a man's dog, however my foster mum says I'm also in touch with my feminine side and am content to hang out with the girls of the house too.
