On Hold
About Kouta
Playful, affectionate and a loyal companion. Busting to be your friend. A rare find.
Other dogs
He is fine with other dogs, male or female, and is social plus interactive.
Cats
Never tested. While Kouta has not had much interaction with cats his next door neighbours'’ have a cat and it doesn't seem to phase Kouta. No withstanding his tolerance preference will be given to homes without a cat.
Kids
Yes - but Kouta might accidentally knock one over. He is heavy and can jump up on people, however he has never tried to bite or harm a child or person.
Size
28 kgs
Exercise requirements
Medium - playful and energetic. Like most dogs Kouta sleeps most of the day. While Kouta enjoys a lazy, sleepy Siesta he does have bursts of energy and loves a daily walk or equivalent playtime at home with his family.
How is your dog on a lead?
Ok unless he sees something exciting and then he can be harder to manage.
How is the dog off the lead?
Sometimes good. Sometimes bad. He will stay by your side if you have treats to offer him, otherwise he may run away to other dogs or people for a play. He rarely goes far though.
Escape artist
No. Kouta hurt his toe as a puppy, so he does not try to jump fences.
Nuisance barker or destructive?
Kouta does not bark much except to let you know if someone strange is about. As long as you give him normal amounts of attention and exercise he will be very well behaved. Ignore him over a number of days and he will turn to other forms of entertainment and might chew on his bed etc. This is normal.
Toilet trained
Yes
Tolerance to being alone
Yes. However, preference will be given to a home where Kouta won’t sleep his life away because you are never home.
Likes
Walks, eating, patting, lying in the sun, lots of attention. Kouta is people orientated and will make a great addition to a family who wish to actively include a dog into their lives as a central focus.
Dislikes
Thunder and lightning.
Ideal home
An energetic person, or couple, who love walking, going to the beach etc. As Kouta is super affectionate and demonstrative you will need to be able to provide an abundance of love and warmth. Kouta is very loyal and thrives on being with you - watching TV and simply wanting to be near by you.
If you want an outside kennelled dog to guard the yard, Kouta is not for you.
Kids are ok, but we suggest older kids as he has a lot of energy and can jump up from time to time and may knock a smaller child over.
Generally
Even though Kouta can be exuberant he is also quite lazy. He sleeps for hours on end and is happy to sleep in until 10am (before needing to wee). He loves lying in the sun and sleeping most of the day. Kouta also loves other dogs and is happy to play and interact with any dogs. He is very loving and also rather cheeky.

Adoption details
1) Read the dog's profile
2) Complete the expression of Interest form
http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
3) Speak to the carer and arrange a meeting
4) House assessment is completed
5) Adoption is completed with a minimum 2 week cooling off period (similar to a trial but with legal protection)
We strongly recommend you read the dogs' profile carefully as everything we know about the dog/s is listed.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner/s. It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog/s.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we do not usually allow trials.
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
