Rocket ~ Koolie (on trial 1/8/15)

If you have an active lifestyle – perhaps you like to run or take long walks – or if you are interested in dog sports such as agility, tracking or obedience, Rocket may be the boy for you! He is a Koolie around 12 months old, and a very handsome boy in his chocolate brown coat with caramel highlights. Even more striking are his very unusual green eyes which are somewhat characteristic of a Koolie, and which tend to give the impression that he is constantly being surprised by the things he sees. Perhaps he is.

Rocket lives up to his name; he moves like a rocket, and he thinks at great speed too. He is a high energy boy, and although that may lessen to a degree as he matures, he will always have an active mind and need good exercise to keep him happy and balanced. He is very intelligent, and so much could be achieved if his new owner gives him some training and develops a strong bond with him. He will not grow to be a large-size dog, just medium. At present he is quite lean and gangly, but he will soon fill out as he matures.

Rocket was a little apprehensive about meeting other dogs when he came to his foster-carer’s house, and it seems that in his early life, before he came into care, he may have missed out on a lot of things that more fortunate puppies experience. But he is now mixing well with the others and likes to chase and wrestle. Because he is so young he is still a little unsure of his position, and runs off crying if one of the other dogs just threatens to give him a clip on the ear, but he would easily settle into a home with another dog or dogs if they were friendly, although very small dogs would not be a good match for him.

There are no children at his foster-carer’s house, so we have not been able to observe his behaviour with any, but because he is so active he would not be suitable for a home with very small children as he could knock them over.

Rocket is an affectionate boy and likes to cuddle in to you on the couch or a suitably-sized armchair. He may even believe he is a lap dog, but his size will soon show him it’s not so. He will make a wonderful companion for the person whose lifestyle compliments this kind of dog.
