About Penny
A loyal and cuddly little companion in need of security and love.
Preference will be given to people who complete an Expression of Interest form http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
Other dogs
Penny has only been in care for a few days and so far is not very social however, her previous carer said she was fine with other dogs. Little dogs like Penny need time to re-adjust to new surroundings and she is already making progress.
Cats
No
Kids
Penny needs a quiet, calm home with a regular routine to help her calm down and settle into a home where she feels safe and secure. We do not recommend a home that is young, loud or with a chaotic atmosphere. We recommend teenagers and older and only if gentle around animals.
Size
3.6 kgs
Exercise requirements
Medium - playful and energetic. Enjoys walks, and is starting to play a little with the other dog at home.
How is your dog on a lead?
In the 2 days we have known her she is not comfortable on a lead. However, this dear little soul is likely to settle with time, love, reassurance and understanding.
How is the dog off the lead?
Unknown – too early to judge
Escape artist
No
Nuisance barker or destructive?
No
Toilet trained
Yes
Tolerance to being alone
Yes but preference will be given to folks who are home more often than not.
Likes
Cuddles and affection – she is after all a companion dog.
Dislikes
Being ignored, left outside or rough play from other dogs.
Ideal home
Folks who are looking for a dear little companion. You will need to be relatively active and willing to help give a small dog the reassurance she needs to settle into a new home after years of neglect. Penny is a fast learner and adapts quickly so if you are moderately patient you will be rewarded with a lot of affection.
Generally Penny was banished to the back yard which is not what these little dogs were bred to endure. Thankfully she was rescued sooner than most.
Penny wants to please and is keen to belong. She is usually quiet and well behaved. Penny comes when called, will stay, or leave an area if asked. She is toilet trained, wants to please and is extremely affectionate.

Adoption details
1) Read the dog's profile
2) Complete the expression of Interest form
http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
3) Speak to the carer and arrange a meeting
4) House assessment is completed
5) Adoption is completed with a minimum 2 week cooling off period (similar to a trial but with legal protection)
We strongly recommend you read the dogs' profile carefully as everything we know about the dog/s is listed.
If you are interested in a dog we invite you to submit an application form so we can learn more about your circumstances. This is to ensure we match the right dog to the best home. (one form per family - not per dog) http://www.dogadoption.org.au/adoption---expression-of-interest.html
This is for the benefit of both the dog and the potential new owner/s. It also saves time and uses limited resources more effectively.
Once the essential criteria is confirmed we put you in touch with the carer for a more detailed chat with a view of meeting the dog/s.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption we make a time for a house check.
The adoption fee is then paid (there is a 2 week cooling off period.) Please note we do not usually allow trials.
Foster carers are also able to adopt foster dogs once approved.
