Dash ~ Scruffy terrier x ~ On Trial 20/7/15

Introducing Dash, a cute little 2 year old male scruffy terrier mix. Dash has big soulful eyes and a scruffy little teddy bear face that will melt your heart even when he is a cheeky imp. Dash has a lovely nature with his humans once he gets to know them but he can be wary with people until he knows them. \ He is very intelligent and he will come when called for a treat and sit when asked.

Dash would best suit a furever home as an only dog as it takes him quite a long time to bond with other dogs he meets. He is in foster care with a friendly kelpie and they are good friends however it's taken some time for him to get used to being with another dog full-time. As with many little dogs, Dash thinks he is a big dog in a little dog’s body and when out walking on lead he has a swagger to his walk and will attempt to show other dogs he is boss by barking at them. His foster carer is working on his lead manners by turning and walking the other way and then making him sit for a treat for showing calm behavior. Dash was under socialized in his previous home and therefore his training on good lead manners will need to continue.

Dash’s friendly nature with his humans excels in a home environment where he feels safe and where he knows his routine. When he first came into foster care he was a bolter and he has thrived once given a consistent routine and lots of love. He is quite active so best suited with older kids over 7 years. Although he loves his cuddles he isn’t your typical lapdog so he would benefit from a family who will keep up his socialization, training and give him a daily walk or run on lead. Dash does like the limelight and will sometimes try to be the centre of attention so he just needs to be gently reminded to share the love.

Dash loves his food and isn’t fussy at all. He’s also very treat focused and smart so will respond well to his ongoing training. Dash is an inside dog and needs to sleep inside. Dash has a low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and occasional clipping to keep him comfortable and beautiful.
