I've been adopted!
About Sorbet ~ Adopted with love 14/2/16
"NEW YEAR, NEW HOME! Pay only half of my adoption fee if you adopt me during January!"
I'm Sorbet and I'm a very special and unique 10 month Dalmation x Staffy. I'm a self confessed clutz - but my foster mummy says that I'm the cutest and most adorable clutz in the whole of NSW which she says is quite a title. I have spurts where I sprint around the yard like a galloping horse dodging trees and rocks, many times I'm not so good at the dodging so I trip and do a kamikaze roll then land back on my feet and keep going. This makes my foster family laugh a lot as I love my zoomie sessions and have a smile on my face the whole time. My foster family's pet name for me is Miss Precious or Madam as I'm such a character!
I love it when you throw the ball across the yard for me so I chase it really fast! I usually trip as I try to catch it, I fall over, get up and then bring it back to you. I love sticks - a lot! When my foster mum is collecting sticks for the firewood pile, I steal the sticks and scatter them around for her to pick up again. This is the best game ever (for me!)
I love love love other dogs! Big, small, young, old - I will beg to be friends with them all! I lick them all over the face to show them how friendly I am. I'm super submissive with dogs and don't have a mean bone in my body. If dogs growl at me I don't have a clue, so I roll on my back and beg for them to be my friend. If you have multiple dogs already then I'd love to join them in playing games - the more the merrier!
I have a very special quality and that is that I'm totally deaf. This is why I can't tell if dogs are growling or barking at me and why I'm so submissive. My foster mummy says my deafness doesn't dampen my zest for life and it makes me even more adorable in my innocence. Because of my deafness other dogs can find me pretty darn annoying as I can't hear their warning growls when I'm too playful. So I need to be adopted by a family with a tolerant playful dog who doesn't mind if I'm in-his-face with friendliness. I won't do well in a single dog family sorry as I need a canine friend as I love to follow other dogs - I'm simply not confident in my silent world without another dog. My foster mum says that I'm a dogs best friend as I thrive when I'm with friendly dogs. I'm quite submissive meeting strangers as I can be startled easily if people reach over my head to pat me if I don't realise they are there. So it takes me some time to warm up to new people.
Everyone that meets me is instantly in love with me as I'm gorgeous. I'm great on a lead - I trot along with good manners and am curious about my surroundings. I am never allowed off lead when we are out as it's too dangerous for me as I can't hear cars and you can't call me back. I have learnt to sit before crossing the road to try and teach me road awareness. I am very well trained already as I've learnt a lot of sign language. I know the hand signals for Good Girl, Sit, Stay, Wait, Come, I Love You, Drop, Naughty (apparently I'm a cheeky minx as I know that one well!) and even the signal for my own name!
I am an inside/outside dog and must be allowed inside with my family when they are at home. I'm very happy being in a safe yard playing with my doggy friends during the day if you have to go to work. I sleep inside at night -snuggling with my foster brothers and sisters on the couch or in the bed. I wake my foster mum and dad up with big licks to the face to show them how much I love them.
For more information or to meet me, please contact my foster mummy Jo on 0427 695 104 (after hours) or email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com. I am in foster care near Gosford, NSW (Central Coast).
My adoption fee is $350 and includes my desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and micro chipping. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Sorbet is a very special puppy as she is deaf (most likely fully deaf), and therefore she is looking for a committed family to adopt her and train her using simple hand signals. Deaf dogs aren’t seen as handicapped as they can easily follow hand signals. Many dogs respond very well to hand signal training (even hearing dogs).
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
