About Pompei ~ Kelpie X Puppy ~ On Trial 3/5/15
Pompei is a playful 9 week old kelpie x puppy. Pompei loves to play with his toys and run around the house with his foster sister Sorbet playing chasing and tug-of-war. Pompei likes to pinch one toy and bark at Sorbet to come and get it and then the game is on! Pompei and Sorbet were left at the pound together with a mummy dog however we aren’t sure that they are from the same litter or mum as they are so different to each other.
As like most kelpies Pompei is very clever and he is focused on pleasing you. He loves praise and learns a new routine quickly. If he’s cheeky (like when he steals your ugg boots!) he will sit and look at you with a look in his big dark eyes that says “It wasn’t me foster mummy!”. Pompei is very snuggly after a hard day of playing and will cuddle on a doggy bed with Sorbet for a long nap. He sleeps through the night in a cosy bed in the lounge-room as it’s way too cold to sleep outside as his fur is still fine.
Pompei is in foster care with 2 adult dogs and 5 cats and he gets on well with all of them. If the cats won’t play with him, he will bark at them and then high-tail it if they swat him for being a pesky puppy. \ He has learnt early on that cats rule the house! He hasn’t played with children yet but considering how confident and friendly he is, I’m sure he will love kids who will play games with him. He would suit families with children older than 5 years old as he’s still very little and could get hurt accidentally. \ Being a puppy he might also jump up or scratch a younger toddler without meaning it.
Pompei would best suit an active furever home with another friendly playful dog or someone who is home a lot if there is no other dog to play with. Pompei is very social and too young to be left alone for long periods of time. \ He is new to toilet training so his new family will need to continue his training as his grows. He loves praise so when you applaud him for toileting outside he looks at you with a grin as if to say “I did that!”.
Kelpies like Pompei are an active and smart breed so his family will need to take him for daily walks and outings once he's big enough. He would love a family who will take him to the beach and dog parks to continue his canine and human socialisation. \ We also recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life and to continue this socialisation. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.
Pompei is an inside/outside dog and needs to be allowed inside when his family is home – he must sleep inside at night even when older. Dogs and puppies enjoy being part of the family and get comfort from being inside with their humans.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
