About Harley
Harley is a beautiful Australian Cattle Dog, with a loving and loyal temperament. Aged between 5 and 8 years, he loves to hang out with you and gets on with other people. Cuddles and belly rubs are definitely appreciated, but he also spends plenty of time relaxing in his beloved bed.
He has the classic dense, smooth coat of the Blue Heeler, which he loves you to brush until it's shiny and flat. Otherwise, his grooming needs are low - no need for baths and washes, he is self-cleaning. Unusually for a male dog, he has no smell, does not bark and never chews the furniture. He does not beg for nor steal food. In fact, his table manners are impeccable.
Harley does need a reasonable amount of exercise (ideally two intense ball & walk sessions per day). He loves to play ball and this wears him out quickly. Once back home though, he is low-energy and likes to sleep, doze around and stretch. Plus a little light snoring.
Since Harley was desexed only recently, he shows dominance towards other male dogs of his size who don't submit to him instantly. Therefore he needs an experienced owner with strong leadership and the physical strength to control him. He would benefit from training in this area or needs to be kept away from other dominant male dogs.
Harley is a quick learner. His lead walking improves daily, although he needs more training on not pulling. He is a very confident boy and behaves well around heavy traffic, large groups of people and strange noises. He does not respond to joggers, people on bicycles, birds nor skateboarders. He knows the commands 'sit' and 'drop', but still needs to master 'stay'. His recall when off the lead is very good, unless there are other dogs around.
A dog with Harley's charm is best suited to a household with an experienced owner who is at home at least part-time or could take him to work. He is fine with older children, but possibly not small children and babies. He is comfortable in cars and keen to be with his owner, so he would make an ideal companion. When left alone, he usually sleeps and behaves very well.
Australian Cattle Dogs are very loyal and smart dogs and Harley is no exception. He would love to find a suitable 'forever home' and would warmly reward the right new owner with his loving nature.

Adoption details
We ask all people looking to adopt to fill an enquiry form.
You can receive this by emailing NSWadoptions@maggiesrescue.org or visiting our webpage www.maggiesrescue.org
We will then organise a time for you to meet with the foster carer and the pet you are interested in adopting.
Maggie's wants this to be a good experience for you, and we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog as your situation may not meet the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of this period we will transfer the microchip to your details and the adoption is complete.
Your pet is a Maggie's Pet for Life, please consider this before adopting.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
