About Malcolm
Malcolm is the most affectionate Shar Pei I have ever come across. He absolutely adores humans and dogs of all sizes. Malcolm is fully toilet trained and lives and inside/outside life at home but definitely prefers being inside when his humans are home. Due to his past life & being in a pound, Malcolm does get a bit anxious if he is put outside alone, though telling him to 'stop' does the trick. For this reason & for his love of dogs, I would like to see Malcolm rehomed into a home with another dog. Malcolm shows no signs of dominance and my 5kg mini cavoodle puts him in his place regularly. He has learnt to play so gently with her. They are the best of friends. Malcolm has a male Siberian Husky friend who he gets along with very well. The first meeting, he was nervous but within a decent time, Malcolm became comfortable and very playful with him. Malcolm shows no signs of food aggression and won't eat the other dogs food if told not to. He eats pleasantly and is not a fussy eater.
When Malcolm first came into care, he showed signs of being abused but within a couple of weeks, helping him to learn to trust me, I could pat any part of his body and head, move quickly around him and use my normal talking voice. This shows me that he is capable of recovering from any past life traumas. Malcolm already sits, drops, shakes, hi 5s and roll over. I have taught him to kiss on command too as I do love a lil kiss every now and again from my fur babies. Thankfully, Malcolm's breath doesn't even have a scent! He has also learnt to wait at the top of my stairs when I leave the house. He is a very smart boy. Malcolm also walks nicely on lead. Being a Shar Pei x, it is unwise to walk them with a collar as they can slip out of them very easily. Malcolm walks on normal non-corrective harness.
Malcolm was a little too interested in my last foster cat and I was not able to do any further testing as the cat found his forever home. Based on what I saw, I think Malcolm may chase if given the opportunity but I don't know if he would act on anything as he is a very submissive boy in general. I would not recommend him with a cat unless you are willing to put in the training required to make sure the cat is 100% safe.
If you are interested in meeting Malcolm, please contact Jenna on the information below. I can tell you now, he'll steal your heart in an instance.
Medical notes
You may notice in his photo he has fly bite on his ears and red skin on part of his legs. This has all cleared up and hasn't repeated.
