About Tigger
Tigger is a curious, friendly and gorgeous 3 year old.
Very quiet and shy the first few days, he took a little while to adjust to change but soon found his feet. Like any greyhound he loves his time on the couch, but he is also very fit and loves the stimulation of a good play and a good walk. Currently we are doing 2 short walks a day or one very big one (40mins) which keeps him happy. He happily says hello to other dogs on the walks.
Quite strong on the lead when he sees something he wants to check out, which is usually smaller dogs and cats! We haven’t let him get too close to either and he responds quite well to instruction to ‘walk on’. He is an ex-racer, who spent most of his time out in an outdoor kennel, so he is loving the indoor life and is very curious about so many things that go on inside the house. Cooking dinner, doing laundry, vacuum cleaners, running water in the bath are all super interesting to him right now.
Though he still needs some basic manners training he is a very fast learner. Has already learned not to walk out the front door (even if its wide open) when we are heading off on a walk, until he is given the go ahead. Tends to be a bit possessive of his toys (perhaps he’s never had them before! ) so we are currently working on getting him more relaxed about letting them go and learning to share, which is going really well. Again, very quick to respond to any type of training. But would not recommend him for a home with very small children, being a young, enthusiastic dog he doesn’t realise his own size and his reflexes are super fast.
He is the only dog in our home and seems quite happy to spend time alone at home on the couch. We haven’t come home to any kind of destruction! And we’ve actually seen him hop up onto the couch before we are even in the car to leave.
But people are definitely his favourite, he greets guests like long-lost friends and follows us wherever we may be in the house or yard. After a week with us though, he decided his favourite place to sleep overnight was in the lounge room, at the opposite end of the house on his beloved couch, so he isn’t not so dependant that you can’t get a bit of space.
Tigger is a beautiful, easy-to-fall-for hound (even the local council rangers are smitten!) that is full of curiosity and loving the new life he’s leading.
