About J.D. ~ Foxy X (on trial 5/6/15)
Meet J.D., a brilliant little 6 year old black & white Foxy x boy. He may not be Johnny Depp or James Dean, but this boy sure is full of charm and personality! He has good manners, he is very affectionate and loves attention. He is the true companion!
J.D. is a very friendly boy who loves his people but he seems to pick one person as his own and follow his person everywhere. He seems to prefer female company more, but does get along with everyone. He also very good with children, We have four children aged between 5 -12. He plays with them, they can take him for walks and he sleeps in bed with my young sons. He doesn't jump or lick and is very gentle with them.
In his foster home, J.D. lives with two cats, an old cat and a kitten. He has shown no aggression towards them, only enormous curiosity and excitement. He tries to make them play with him! J.D. also has the company of two larger dogs; he is generally good with other dogs but seems to be better with our older female dog rather than the younger male.
Despite of his age, J.D. is very playful, he loves his toys and his favourite games include tug-o-war and fetch. He also jumps into the wading pool, likes to lick treats out of a Kong and plays doggy wrestle with our older female dog. The lovely thing is how he taught our older dog to play! When she was rescued, she didn't know how to play or what to do with toys until J.D. came along and showed her, and now they have fabulous play sessions
together.
J.D. is mostly house trained, although a bit more patience and training with his stress marking is still needed. This is much better already after being desexed and getting more settled.
J.D. has had basic training and knows lots of commands like 'sit', 'wait', 'stay' and 'come'. He sits and waits for his food and also shakes hands for a treat. J.D. walks well enough on the lead for even our youngest child to walk him, he does get excited about other dogs or cats though and can pull then. He loves car rides and behaves very well in the car.
His coat is very low maintenance; It is silky and shiny and short, doesn't seem to shed much, he doesn't mind a bath or a brush either. As he does not have an undercoat, he will need a jacket for the cooler months.
The ideal home for J.D. would be with people who include him in their daily lives. He would suit both for a retired person or a family. J.D. does not like to be left alone, so there should be someone home most of the time, or another small (preferably female) dog to keep him company. He needs to be allowed inside, and to sleep inside.
