I've been adopted!
About Sparky ~ sweet senior (Trial 16/4/15)
Sparky has put on his favourite tie for you! He is an 11 year old mini fox terrier x whippet. He is a lovely, friendly and affectionate boy. Despite his age Sparky loves to run around the house and yard with my toy poodle, and to wrestle. Following a good game, Sparky will then find his blanket and snuggle up for a nap to recharge.
Sparky loves to be part of the family and snuggles up with you whenever he can. He is so gentle with my young grandchildren he just loves it when they come over. He gets along well with all dogs he has met, both big and small.
Sparky is house trained. So long as he is allowed access to the yard he will go out and do what he needs to do. He also knows that before going to bed at night he has to go outside and do a wee. He sleeps inside, and sometimes shares the bed with his toy poodle foster sister, he is happy to just walk in a night and very happy to come out in the morning.
Sparky is an inside dog and needs access to the inside if he is left alone during the day. He must sleep inside at night. He sleeps all night in a dog crate with his favourite blanket and we do not hear anything from him until the next morning when he is so happy to see me. He will need to wear a sweater overnight in the cooler months.
Sparky came into DRN’s care with a dislocated left hind leg. He runs on three legs, and walks on four. The vet has treated his leg with a series of injections at a cost of $25 a month, and this will need to be continued. He can only walk about 100 meters, so he only needs very short walks. He might enjoy going for walks in a dog pram!
He is not food aggressive, does not bark except when his foster sister tells him there is someone outside. He has shown absolutely no aggression with people or other animals. He has met one cat and he seemed to be intrigued, though I can’t predict what he would do if he was in a cat’s company alone of course.
Sparky would suit someone who is looking for a dog to provide companionship and affection. He will love a short walk with you. Even though he is an older dog he is in good health and would love to find a forever home with the right person.
For more information or to meet Sparky, please contact his foster carer Robyn on 0414 550 340. Sparky is in foster care in Lake Macquarie (south of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Sparky's adoption fee is only $100 because of his senior status and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
