About Wasabi ~ Special Needs ~ On Trial 28/3/15
My name is Wasabi and I am a friendly, laid back mixed breed pup.I'm supposed to be a mastiff x but my foster mummy thinks I'm part Great Dane too - I'm only 6 months old but I'm a very big boy so she calls me a gentle giant. Even though I have legs like a race horse I'm pretty lazy and chilled out - I love laying on my doggy bed or the lounge.
Every person who meets me adores me (I'm modest!) - they say I'm devine.Even though I'm just a baby they are surprised at how well-mannered and well-adjusted I am. My secret weapon to make people fall in love with me is to tuck my tail down low and push myself up against your legs like a cat for cuddles. If you kneel down I will put my head in your lap and gaze up at you with big sad eyes. I will then crawl onto your lap and snuggle you. When my foster mummy tries to watch TV I lay all over her like a big cuddly lump.I'm not in foster care with children however I've meet some children from 2 years to 10 years and I liked to lick them. Being such a big boy I could accidentally knock younger children when playing so my foster mum says I will be better with older confident kids.
I love other dogs to pieces but sometimes I annoy them as I'm so big and goofy. I like to rest my paws on them like an armchair in an attempt to play with them. If other dogs won't be my friend I crawl on my tummy to them and try to win them over with my boyish charm. I'm in foster care with two older dog friends that I idolise, I like to sneak up behind them and softly chew on their back legs like chicken drumsticks. It's a pretty unique game but then my foster mummy says I'm one of a kind!
I live with 5 rescue cats and they are the best ever. I particularly love Meelu who lets me lay on her like a pillow and allows me to lick her from head to toe. My other kitty Shmoo will boss me around if I'm too boisterous - she will swipe at me to tell me to toe the line. I'm ok with that - I know she really loves me!
I love walking and walk quite well on a lead (most of the time!).I am quite lazy though so if there is a patch of soft grass sometimes I just flop on the grass and lay there like I couldn't possibly take one more step looking at you with big sad eyes. My foster mummy then shows me a treat and I spring to my feet and run around in circles! I tricked you! I love splashing in water so if you live near the beach I'd love to come out with you. I also love playing with water from the hose and will end up soaking wet if you attempt to water the garden.
At night-time I carry around my fleecy donut bed like a blankie.I will drag it on the lounge and then cuddle it like a pillow. I love soft toys a lot, I don't really chew them up (well just a little sometimes!) but my favourite toy is my pink rabbit. If you throw a ball I'll go and get it and then run around crazily with it (sorry, did you want it back?)
I would best suit an active couple or family who have a passion for large breed dogs. I will be very large when fully grown so my family will need to continue my training and socialisation with dogs, children and cats as I grow to ensure I'm a well-rounded adult. I've never been on my own since being in foster care so I'm best suited to a family with a friendly young adult dog who is tolerant of my puppy playfulness, or someone who is home a lot. Like most puppies I'm not suitable to leave on my own for long periods of time as I love companionship. \ I'm an inside /outside dog and must be allowed inside when my family is home.
If you would like to meet me, please contact my foster mum Jo on email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com or 0427 695 104 (outside of business hours). I am in foster care near Gosford, NSW (Central Coast) and I am not available for adoption interstate.
My adoption fee is $400 and includes my desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, micro chipping and registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
When Wasabi first came into foster care he had demodex mange (not contagious). His skin was raw and infected and he lost a lot of his hair. He's been on mange treatment for 2 months and is barely recognisable. Wasabi is now mite free but needs daily medication for 6 more weeks. Part of his mange treatment is to eat a varied and nutritious diet to build up and maintain a healthy immune system. Although he will make a full recovery Wasabi must remain on a nutritious, varied diet (not expensive) for the rest of life to keep him fit and healthy. If he is put on commercial only food he will relapse. Wasabi's new family needs to commit to his medication short term and his good diet long term.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
