About Irwin
Hi my name is Irwin and I am as cute and cuddly as they come. I look like a small Tibetan Spaniel, with a little bit of chihuahua mixed in.
I love other dogs and enjoy going with my foster family to the park. I play with dogs of all sizes and I especially like my foster brother who is little like me and who let's me be the boss, even though I'm just a house guest. I'd love to have a friend who is about my size, or even bigger - I like big dogs too!
I'm not so sure on kids, I haven't had alot to do with them however I'd like to meet your family and if your kids are gentle and not too little, I think we'll get along just fine.
If you're interested in meeting me, please read carefully the Chihuahua Rescue Qld adoption process because I'd love to have a meet and greet with you soon!
The first step in adopting a dog from Chihuahua Rescue Qld is to fill out an expression of interest form. We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/12529dMiAly65p5nEdDC
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks. We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly or Moorooka vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
Medical notes
Unfortunately, Irwin was surrendered to the pound to be euthanized as his family didn't want him any more. The wonderful staff at the pound got a surrender form signed and transfered him to our rescue group.
When Irwin came to us, it was obvious that he had not had proper veterinary treatment or care for many years. His skin was discoloured from long term infection and flea allergies, his fur was sparse and dry and his toe nails were all twisted and overgrown. He had a mouth full of infected teeth and required many extractions.
He has healed exceptionally well in foster care and is now a much healthier little dog.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Moorooka or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.

Prior to adoption, all dogs will need to have a meet and greet with their family and a house check will be done. All adoptions are subject to a four week trial to ensure your new friend fits in well with your household.
We have many dogs that are in foster care and are not yet ready to be listed for a variety of reasons. If you have a good idea of what you are looking for in your new dog please email us at chihuahuarescueqld@gmail.com and let us help you match a dog to your needs.
