About Jersey ~ cattle dog x, puppy (On Trial 2/5/15)
Introducing the gorgeous Jersey girl. This cute bundle of joy is a 10 week old Ridgeback x Cattle dog and she is ready to find her new home. With her playful antics and her affectionate ways, Jersey is an absolute pleasure to have around and makes every day just that little bit brighter.
At the moment Jersey is living with older and bigger dogs both male and female and but she doesn't mind at all. She will often be chasing them around and demanding they play with her. Sshe doesn't seem to be intimidated by their size or energy, instead matching them with her giant personality and huge heart.
Jersey is a very smart little girl and loves showing it off. She knows her name, has learnt to sit and she is getting better with other basic commands. As she is still only young, Jersey is not quite 100% house trained yet. She is improving on this and will usually take herself outside to do her business, just like her big dog mentors, and she rarely has those embarrassing accidents in the house anymore. In order for Jersey to continue to improve her learning it is essential that her training continues in her new home.
Jersey is a fan of little naps and during the day will take herself for a little sleep when she feels she needs it. At night Jersey sleeps with her foster brothers on a bed right next to her foster mum. Being allowed inside and sleeping inside is a requirement for her future home as she really adores having company and loves a good cuddle.
As she is still a puppy Jersey is still being fed 3 meals per day and is being introduced to new tastes, smells and textures which are all very exciting. This should continue until she is big enough to only need 2 meals per day. Her favourite foods are brown rice, vegies and raw chicken mince. It’s the bomb! She also nibbles on dry kibble each day and enjoys an occasional raw bone.
Jersey is oh so sweet and very easy going for a puppy, but to ensure she grow into a well rounded young lady she will need to be introduced to many different things over the course of her puppy days. She would do well with a family who will help introduce her to new smells, new places, different types of surfaces, water and other dogs (when she's fully immunised). Yes having a puppy is a lot of work and effort, but it is very rewarding as you will make a companion for life. You didn't think it would be easy, did you?
We always recommend puppy school for any dog but for puppies it’s even more important. Training classes offer socialisation opportunities in a safe and controlled way where both pup and family are learning valuable skills for the outside world.
Jersey would best suit a home with an existing doggie playmate or with a family planning to adopt again very soon as she need to run and play with some four legged friends.
