About Evan
Evan is a large Staffy X Mastiff so when considering if you want a dog of his size it is best to remember that he will eat a kilo of food a day, he is no lightweight at 40kgs but he is as gentle as a small fluffy.
Not only is he gentle, never jumping or rushing at anyone, he has impeccable manners and is very eager to please and easy to train. He is very intelligent and quick to learn.
He knows sit, stay, drop and walks so well on a lead even a small child could take him. I don’t think Evan realizes he is big and powerful because he never behaves that way.
At first meeting Evan is reserved and extra polite, at best delivering a small lick. He is a true gentleman and even after settling his excitement level at seeing you is restrained, giving a tail wag or at best a vigorous tail wag. It’s not that he doesn’t love seeing you but he is not a boisterous dog, which is just as well considering his size.
When you’re eating he likes to stay in the same room but at a comfortable distance and never begs for food nor does he steal food. He loves company but is never ‘in your face’.
Evan is housetrained, he is happy sleeping outside or inside but if you are home he wants to be near you. He simply wants to know where you are and will lie down nearby but not under your feet.
There is no need to worry about furniture, your garden or possessions if you leave him alone even if that’s all day long – he doesn’t get restless, anxious or bored. All he needs is his water, a soft big dog bed and some outdoor space.
He is fine with other dogs and takes only a moderate amount of interest in them; if they are aggressive he just walks away. He shows no interest in cats either however; he chases birds so a household with caged birds might not be a good thing.
Like all dogs Evan would enjoy more training, but it would not be necessary to take him to training as he is easy to train at home and already knows most of the important commands.
He would suit a family with any sized children because he just isn’t excitable but what I’ve found is that Evan thrives with male adult company.

Medical notes
Evan had a skin condition when he came out of the pound.
It has been treated with dog washes and cortisone.
He is now on minimal cortisone every three days and that is likely to be decreased further. The vet thinks it may just be a seasonal rash or it may never appear again.
