About Rastus
Rastus came into care as a Mastiff mix, however we believe him to be more like a Shepherd. As with any rescue dog, its impossible to accurately judge his breed, and we can only go based on looks and personality. We feel he is a Dutch Shepherd based on what we have seen, but we cannot guarantee this.
Rastus is a fabulous young puppy. He has so much character and can be so cheeky. He loves to "hoard" anything he finds that he thinks is special. He will carry it to his "special place" and just leave it there. So far he has made a "special place" in our laundry and outside in our rose bush! I am constantly laughing at the sort of items I find in his hoards. From regular toys, to grooming tools, to cat harnesses and even sprinklers. Anything that catches his eye!
He is very intelligent and learnt sit and down very quickly. He behaves beautifully on leash and is learning to recall when off-leash in an unfenced public area.
Overall he is a gem in the rough as far as puppies go. He is very easy going and very easy to live with.
However we do feel he would be suited to an experienced home only, as he can be very cheeky and independent. So he needs someone who has experience with training and handling shepherds or independent breeds.
Rastus is suited to an active lifestyle. He loves to run and play.
He is great with other dogs and fine with cats. Rastus would love to have a home with another dog of his size and energy level.
At this stage we do not feel he would be suitable to a home with pocket pets or livestock, as his instinct is to chase anything that moves. Be it a toy, a leaf or even ants on the ground.
At only 3 1/2 months old he is house trained perfectly, we've not had a single accident inside. He doesn't chew and is trusted 100% loose in the house while were away as we know he does not have accidents or chew.
Medical notes
Rastus is located near Leeton in the Riverina, New South Wales.
