About Gem *On Trial in Her New Home*
*GEM IS CURRENTLY TRIALING HER NEW HOME - NO MORE ENQUIRIES/APPLICATIONS PLEASE* \ You can’t help but fall in love with this playful puppy! She reminds us of a gangly teenager with her long legs and enormous puppy paws and ears! Watching Gem play is endless entertainment as she is as goofy as she is gangly and so delightfully puppy in learning how her body responds to her expression.
Gorgeous Gem is only a few months old and was first thought to be a Terrier cross until she kept growing, so our vets have gone with ‘Staghound cross’ – she’s definitely a ‘bitsa’ who we’re guessing will be the size of a Labrador once she finishes growing. Her hair is short, soft and white with a couple of lovely tan spots decorating her coat.
Currently residing with two other dogs, she is having the time of her life playing, playing and playing. Gem loves other dogs and will engage frivolously with everyone, big or small. She also lives with a cat, who she adores, although if the cat runs off she does think it is a game and will join in the chase, much to the cat’s chagrin!
Loving her humans, she is great with kids and adults alike. Her best friends are those with the energy and time to play with her.
Gem’s favourite activity is going for a walk, and playing off lead at the doggy park. She will run around and around, coming back to check in with you every few minutes. She likes to investigate all the sights and smells plus play with all the new dogs, and chase all the birds away. Water is another obsession with her spending hours and hours enjoying the paddling pool in her foster home and chasing the jets of the sprinklers! Gem is a bright puppy who has already learnt to sit and drop. She loves her toys, playing tug of war with them or chewing and shaking them to death. Squeaky toys are her very favourites. Her other favourite pastime is redecorating; she has a funny habit of pulling all the bedding for each dog out and moving it around the property!
Being a puppy she is at that chewing phase, where she will gnaw through anything and everything. She has even chewed through her lead a few time times, as if to tell her human ‘hey, no pauses to talk, we were walking!’ She has also done a bit of high quality excavating in the back yard, so to keep her preoccupied and avoid the chewing and digging, we would recommend this puppy be in the company of other active dogs, and given some excellent bones and smart toys to keep her busy whilst unattended. Gem is a smart dog, learning quickly to respond to vocal and visual cues. There is great potential for someone to train her properly.
Used to sleeping in her own bed, Gem is comfortable sleeping in or outside. She treasures being invited up on the couch for a cuddle with you and is completely housetrained. She is a healthy eater, currently having two meals daily. Her favourite treat food is carrots, followed by Schmackos.
Ideally Gem should be with a household that have the time and energy to invest in a puppy. She will need a half hour walk each day and lots of time to play and ongoing training is a must. Ideally there will be other dog/dogs to play with and we would be looking to continue her inside/outside lifestyle.

Adoption details
Please Note: SARG and our animals for adoption are located in Mildura in North-West Victoria.
Our adoption process commences with completing an Application form which you'll find at: www.sarg.net.au
The Application is then reviewed, references checked and a yard check done, then, if there are no issues, a meet and greet is organised. If all goes well the last stage is a 28 day home-trial to make sure that everyone is happy.
If the trial is successful our “stray” is then officially considered adopted and the microchip transferred into the new owners name.
If anything goes wrong SARG will always take back one of our animals :)
