Adoption information
I've been adopted!
About Reba ~ a very special senior girl (adopted 1/4/15)
Reba is a 9 year old Mastiff mix and is a special needs dog. She has a front leg which is misshapen due to lack of veterinary attention after it was broken when she was young. You'd be surprised just how well she gets around though!
Reba is a beautiful natured dog with very good manners and settled into her foster home from day one despite coming from a home where she had very little attention and where she spent most of her life confined to the back yard. Reba loves to socialise and has enjoyed meeting the people and dogs at the local park where she goes every day. She walks very nicely on lead.
She has not shown any aggressive behaviour even when other dogs have not shown the same level of friendliness. She is particularly gentle with small or young dogs. She has made many friends at the park, and with visitors to the house, due to her gentle nature and happy disposition. She has met young children and is very gentle with them.
As Reba requires little exercise. Her foster mum drives her to the park, which is on the edge of the lake, where she has a short walk and socialises. Everything is new to her. She loves to walk out on the jetty and watch the men fishing or to watch the pelicans. The first time she saw a person on a paddle board she was totally fascinated and watched until the board was out of sight. It was the same with boats, birds, kayaks, picnickers, in fact anything or anyone on the lake they all hold her interest and she enjoys all these new experiences.
Reba loves the car and grabs every opportunity to go for a drive. She travels well in the car and it is not unusual to find her sitting in the garage in the hope that she will be taken for a drive.
Reba is house trained which is surprising as she would have spent very little or no time inside before coming to Dog Rescue Newcastle (DRN). She spends her time both inside and outside the house. She comes and goes as she pleases. She is happy to sleep outside and goes off to bed when it is time. She knows the routine and goes to bed without any resistance.
Reba is very obedient and will follow commands of ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘come’ or ‘on your mat’. She is not destructive or anxious when left at home nor has she destroyed anything in the house or the garden. Reba is not a nuisance barker. She will give one or two barks occasionally when another dog walks past the back gate, but otherwise she is very quiet. She has not met any cats since being in care so not sure how she will react.
Reba has adapted very well to the new experience of toys. She is fascinated with the ones that squeak and loves a knitted doll which goes to bed with her. When excited her tail not only goes from side to side, but in circles.
Reba is a very special girl and is looking for a home where she will have lots of love and companionship in her senior years. \ She will be suited to a home with an older couple, a home where someone will be home a lot, a home where she will be allowed in the house and become part of the family. A home that allows her to socialise, a home that takes her on holiday with them and doesn’t leave her in a boarding kennel. Reba has stolen many, many hearts since being rescued and we all want her to be treasured in her forever home.
For more information or to meet Reba please contact the foster carer Pam on (02) 49469356 or 0418469356 or email pam7.john8@bigpond.com. Reba is in foster care in Valentine, NSW 2280 (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
