About Nikel (Trial 7/2/15) Dachshund x Chi puppy
This gorgeous little boy is named Nikel. He is a 9 week old Dachshund x Chihuahua puppy. He is only tiny and weighs about 1.5 kg. He is living with other small dogs at his foster carer's house and enjoys chasing and wrestling with them. There are also chickens and cats there and he gets on well with them too. After playtime he will crawl up on your lap for a snooze.
We are teaching Nikel some basic commands such as "sit" and he is learning quickly. He is also going well with his house training. As with all young dogs we recommend training classes so he learns what is expected of him. He will need a daily walk, toys, and interaction with people. Puppies are a big commitment for approximately 15 years.
Nikel is an inside dog and needs to be allowed inside, at least when people are home, and to sleep inside. He is a lively, inquisitive pup who enjoys exploring his environment.

Nikel would love a home an active family who is willing to play and spend time with him. He would enjoy having children or another small dog to play with as he is an active young man. Children should be 7 years or older as Nikel is very small and could be accidently dropped or hurt by little ones. He will need a home with fencing with no small gaps that he could squeeze his tiny self through.
As Nikel is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he'll need to be returned to our vet for desexing when he’s 5 months old.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
