About Puppy Kye (On Trial 24/1/15)~ I'm Deaf!
Kye is a loveable 14 week old white Staffy x Mastiff puppy. Kye has an easy going personality and he loves to play with humans and other dogs. He loves to snuggle and is very people orientated... he will happily give cuddles and will crawl on your lap to sleep.
Kye is deaf but this doesn't stop him from living life to the fullest and playing the day away with his doggy brothers and sisters. He is learning sign commands for Sit, Come and Uh-Uh. Training a deaf puppy is very similar to a hearing puppy using consistency, routine and positive rewards. Certain hand signs and words are used for each command and all members of the family need to use these signs when communicating with Kye. Kye loves his food and is very treat focused which helps with training.
Kye loves toys and once he's old enough will best suit a family who can take him walking every day to explore his surroundings as he's very curious. Deaf dogs can never be let off lead outside of a secured yard or fenced area as they are unable to hear cars approaching. Kye would best suit an active family or couple who will involve him in exciting outdoor adventures like parks, picnics or the beach - being deaf he will need to remain on a long lead for his own safety.
Kye is good with cats as he lives with a few of them. He thinks the cats are puppy friends and is gentle with them.
Kye would be best with another friendly tolerant playful dog who can help him with doggy socialisation and who is a positive role model for him to follow as he grows. He would not be suited to a dominant dog as he is unable to hear their warning growls if he is over playful with them. He is better suited to older children or teenagers who will also need to communicate with him using signs.
Kye is an inside and outside dog, he must be allowed inside with his family when they are home, with playtime in the yard during the day. He is very people focused and therefore loves to be with her humans for family time when they are home. Kye's furever family is one who will allow him to sleep inside even when he gets older.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
