About Preston
My name is Preston and I came on a big adventure to get me to Brisbane. My family moved overseas and left me behind in Darwin, which made me pretty unhappy. Thankfully the team from the Darwin Rescue group called their friends at CRQ and asked if I could hop on a plane and come to Brisbane where I'd be more likely to find a family to adopt me. It's been months now, and still nobody has adopted me but I hope someone will soon.
Life hasn't been easy for me since I've been in Brisbane either. I hadn't seen a vet for a long time before I came to CRQ, and when I went to see the Doctor he found that I had a few underlying problems. Thankfully I've been getting lots of love from my foster carers and the vet team have been taking care of me very well.
I love to play with the ball and I really love my food. I love my food a little too much and the vets have put me on a diet - they say that my potbelly is not such a good thing and it needs to stop growing, and maybe even shrink a little!
I live with other dogs, and they are my mates but I'm also happy to hang out on my own. I'm used to their being children in my foster home but I find them a bit annoying and wish they weren't so in my face, so I'd prefer if there weren't any noisy, rough children in the family that adopt me.
I have a disease called Cushings Disease and the vets say they can't fix it. The vet says I don't need any medication yet but one day I will need to start taking daily tablets to keep me feeling better.
I'd really love to find a home with someone who will love me, so if you'd like to meet me, please read through the CRQ adoption process as I'd just love a meet and greet soon!
The first step in adopting a dog from Chihuahua Rescue Queensland is to fill out an expression of interest form. We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address: http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/12529dMiAly65p5nEdDC
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly or Moorooka vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Preston has had comprehensive blood tests due to his age. These blood tests have revealed that Preston is developing Cushings Disease and will require medication in the future. He has had thorough testing, including ultrasounds and xrays. He has had a dental surgery and teeth extracted.
Preston has arthritis and requires some pain relief to keep him comfortable. He had recently undergone a surgery on his right patella to repair the severe luxation and inflammation.
