Buddy ~ mixed (on trial 13/6/15)

BUDDY, 10 month old, medium sized, English Staffy x Mastiff mixed breed. So I pick up the phone and call the head honcho of Dog Rescue Newcastle. “This dog ‘Buddy’ is gorgeous”, I say. “I want to keep him for myself.” There’s silence from the other end. I think she’s not impressed. “Just look after the dogs you’ve got already and find Buddy a home where he gets all the love and attention he deserves”, she says.

I’m thinking there are lots of people out there would want to adopt Buddy. He’s medium sized (won't get bigger), he’s 10 months old, he’s handsome, he’s got ears like the flying nun’s hat, and he has a sweet, sweet nature. What more could anyone want?

Buddy’s not telling me anything about his parents and I’ve quit asking, so I have to guess his breed. I’m fairly sure there’s mastiff in there somewhere. One of his parents must have been small, because his feet aren’t large and neither is he. But he’s got a big heart. Cuddle! That boy tucks his head into your shoulder and cuddles like there’s no tomorrow! On your knee, on your couch, on your bed, that’s where he wants to be, so long as you’re there too!

I’m thinking Buddy wasn’t treated well in his early days. When he arrived he was a little apprehensive, unsure, inclined to think good things go east when he goes west. But he’s different now; he’s mixing well with other dogs, loves to play chasing or wrestle, and he doesn’t want to cause or be part of any trouble.

The boy’s got a nice easy-care coat. (I could look after that in no time at all, if only I could keep him.) He travels well in the car, and he loves a walk on lead.

I tried to raise the subject of cats and kids with him, but he doesn’t give much away. Don’t think he actually knows what a cat is, but he doesn’t admit to that. I’m picking he’d love kids, he’s such a softie.

Buddy's adoption fee is only $400 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration.
