About Jewel ~ Fox Terrier (on trial 3/7/15)
Jewel is a 4 year old Fox Terrier x, weighing 6.8 kgs. Her favourite pastimes are: sitting beside you or on your lap; playing with her favourite toys; playing with other dogs; going for a walk; and having a snuggle in the morning while receiving a little massage.
Jewel loves her daily walk and gets very happy when you start to put on her walking harness. She is a very loyal companion and likes to stay close. However, she is not ready to be allowed off lead yet.
Jewel loves squeaky toys and she often initiates play with her toys. She is fond of a ball and Kong toy and will play on her own. She is learning to share-play with my dog, but mostly she plays with him without toys.
She gets on very well with my small male dog. The two of them are always jumping around on top of each other wrestling. Jewel tries to keep away from my cat and will not chase him.
She is working on her house training and learning to use the dog door to go outside. She's very clever and is doing very well learning basic commands such as “stay”, “come” and “walk”. She absolutely loves a walk and really needs one or two walks a day.
Jewel is an indoor dog and must be allowed inside and to sleep inside. She loves to be close to her people. She has a day bed next to me for when I work on the computer.
Jewel has some reduced vision in one eye. It doesn't affect her much, you'd hardly know it. I have taken the precaution of putting a red and white tape across the sliding glass door at her eye level so she doesn't accidently run into the glass at night.
Jewel loves to have her chest rubbed. She is not suitable to a home with children under 12 years old as she doesn't like to be roughly handled. Jewel is anxious during thunderstorms and needs to be inside.
This poor girl has had two successive owners who have died which was very unsettling for her. Now she just needs some consistency and commitment in a loving forever home. Once she is settled into her new home and becomes familiar with her surroundings she will be your very best friend.
When you return home after being at work or out for a day she is so pleased to see you that it makes it all the worthwhile being a dog owner. Jewel enjoys being close to you and touching you, she loves to go in the car, loves companionship. If you could love her for the rest of her life and be patient with her simple needs, we'd love to hear from you.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
