About Olivia (on trial 3/12/14) ~ Dachshund x Chi puppy
Olivia is an 8 week old, female, Miniature Dachshund x Chihuahua puppy. She is a very sweet and affectionate little puppy. She loves to play with all sorts of toys. She has been very well socialised with other dogs and puppies and gets along great with dogs of all different breeds, sizes and ages. Being so young, she could learn to live with cats.
When Olivia came into care she was only 4 weeks old and weighed a tiny 600 grams. She is now thriving and weighs 2kgs. She will remain a small dog when fully grown.
Olivia is too young to be left home alone all day so she needs a home with was someone that doesn't work full time, such as a stay at home mum, or someone who works from home or is retired. It would be ideal if Olivia had another small, friendly dog for company.
Olivia has begun housetraining and is doing well, but of course she still too young to have full physical control. She uses a puppy pee pad overnight and goes outside during the day.
Though Olivia enjoys playing in the yard and romping with the other dogs she must be a predominantly inside dog: to be safely locked inside when no one is home, to be inside with the family and to sleep inside. She loves to snuggle up in her comfy bed and hug her teddy at night. She wears a jacket in cool weather. She loves to feel like a member of the family.
Olivia adores people and will happily follow you around. She isn't suitable for kids under 10 years old as they might accidently hurt her. She's not best suited to someone 70 or older as she could get underfoot and trip them. You will need solid fencing with solid material underneath such sleepers or concrete and no small gaps because she could squeeze through tiny spaces. She cannot go to rural fencing (eg: mesh or any form of wire).
Olivia is a very clever girl and will need to go to puppy training classes to engage her active mind and continue her training. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, daily exercise, and training. She's going to be a wonderful dog and you will enjoy your time spent with her!
Olivia is available for adoption to the following areas: Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens. She is not available for Interstate adoption.
For more information or to meet Olivia, please ring Robyn 02 4953 7115 (preferred) or 0468 435 587 (no email) and leave a message. Olivia is in foster care in Glendale, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle). She will be ready to go to her forever home after the 6th of December but you can meet her now.
Olivia's adoption fee is only $450 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, and microchipping. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
