About Trixie
Trixie came to us a very shy and scared little dog. Am told she is a pure Shih Tzu, and in saying that, she doesn't seem to have the weepy eyes that a lot of Shih Tzus have, and no overbite/underbite either!
Trixie is 6 years old, but in good health for her age. Her teeth are good as are her hips and knees, from a routine examination. She has plenty of "pep" and has many years life left. Trixie's breed is known to regularly live for at least 15 years.
Since arriving, Trixie has come a long way. She was very scared but with patience and persistance, she has come out of her shell and has become a very loyal dog who loves attention.
She is quite outgoing now and friendly.
She is always right by your side and is a genuine lap dog! She loves her cuddles and being held.
Trixie would suit an older family or a single person. Someone with patience and understanding, and a calm nature.
She does prefer to be with you, but will settle if left alone.
Trixie is an inside dog, but will not wander if left outside and is not bothered if she has to have a nap outside as well.
She is timid around the children sometimes, if she is rushed, but not aggressive.
If she is hurt, even accidentally (eg: accidentally standing on her tail, or in amidst playtime with the other dogs), she will react with snapping and growling.
Trixie is house trained, but will need to learn where "outside" is in her new home.
Trixie likes to chase the cat, but she has no aggression and its more of a play thing. Trixie is good with all the other dogs I have seen her interact with. She is neither reactive or submissive, she just seems to co-exist with the most of them, beautifully.
Trixie was very matted and needed a groom, of which she got from the lovely Ellie at Cheeky Pups Grooming, and I am pleased to say Trixie accepted it like a champ. She was very unsure of the clippers but trusted quick enough to let her complete groom happen. I have no doubt that as time progresses, she will get better with this, as she will require regular grooming and brushing.
Trixie is a great little watch dog and lets you know the second anyone comes to the gate. She doesn't unnecessarily bark though.
Overall, she is a loyal, lovely dog with an extremely sweet personality , keen for love and to have a family of her own.
She should adjust to any type of family home, provided she is loved and treated right.
If you can offer Trixie the perfect forever home, please email us as to the kind of life she would have with you. Someone will contact you and arrange a "meet and greet".
Trixie is currently residing in Greenbank.
