About Toby (On trial 27/11/14 )~ 3yo Maltese
Toby is an adorable, 3 year old, little Maltese X dog. At the moment he is living in a household with a 7 year old and an 11 month old child and is very loving and affectionate with them. He loves going for walks and charms everyone he meets, old and young alike. He has always behaved beautifully around other dogs. He is a great age as he is still young enough to run around the park with the kids, but old enough to snuggle quietly at my feet at our local café.
He is doing very well with housetraining and hasn't had an accident inside recently. He is starting to obey commands - sit, stay, down, on your mat etc. He's very clever and learns quickly as he is smart and very eager to please his humans! \ He comes excitedly when you call his name and may even jump up so he will need further training. He has been extra gentle with my baby and a bit more boisterous with my super energetic 7 year old son – he is a very intuitive little dog! He's good in the car and takes his seat as soon as you let him in.
Toby has never met a cat but he is a very easy going boy so we think he'd be good, but can't say for sure until tested.
He loves his food and will wait till you finish putting it in his bowl before he begins eating. If he is outside and I open the door, most times he will wait for me to invite him in.
During the day, Toby has been both inside and outside. He is happy to relax in the garden on his own but he also loves being with you inside. He has been travelling well in the car, and loves our daily outings.
Toby came to us a bit matted so he has just had a thorough clipping and his hair is very short at the moment. \ Depending on how often you want to groom him, you can keep his hair short or let it grow out a bit into a gorgeous soft fluffy white coat. His coat doesn't shed to needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful.
Toby would make a great family pet or could just as easily suit an older, active couple or single. It would be great if he could have someone home at least some of the time during the day as he is such a loving, friendly dog who adores human company!
For more information or to meet Toby, please contact his foster carer Kate on 0414978739 or email foxupton@bigpond.com. Toby is in foster care in Newcastle, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.
Toby's adoption fee is only $450 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
