About Thor (On trial 26/11/14)
Thor is a bouncy 8 month old Wolfhound X puppy. Thor is the height of a German shepherd, but is crossed with something smaller so we don’t believe he will be the height of a regular Wolf Hound when full grown. Thor currently lives in a home with an 11 year old female dog, 2 guinea pigs and a bunny. Although he is initially curious about his bunny and guinea pig siblings, he ignores them once he’s had a dash around them. Thor loves other dogs - he wants to be best friends with every dog he meets and hasn’t quite learned doggie etiquette yet so he needs further training on calm doggy introductions. Thor would love to be adopted by a family with another confident dog, however he would be just as happy being an only dog and getting all the attention. He is full of life and wants to play for as long as anyone is interested.
Thor loves playing with children. He is in foster care with 6 and 8 year old boys. They are quite happy to play with him and he happily tags along with any game they play, especially catch and chasings. Due to his size and energy levels he is best suited to a house with slightly older children or teenagers, as he might accidentally knock over small children during play. He loves accepting hugs from children – he laps it up when the kids put their arms around him for a big hug.
Thor is currently learning the commands “sit”, “stay”, “outside” and “down”. He is also learning to walk on a lead. Being a large breed dog, his new family will need to be confident in training and walking a large breed boy who is still learning about the world when out on walks. We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.
Thor loves food - he wolfs it down (well he is a wolfie!) and is certainly not a fussy eater. He has no food aggression - you can take the food away from him without any issues.
Thor would be best suited to a forever home where he can be inside with the family when they are home to have family time. Thor and his 2 brothers were found at 4 months old wandering in the bush where they had to fend for themselves. Due to this Thor can be a bit insecure at times, and will follow you everywhere ensuring you are still there. For this reason Thor needs to be adopted by a family who are understanding and will happily give him lots of attention and TLC.
For more information or to meet Thor, please contact Nicola on 0401 744 182 or email icyana@hotmail.com. Thor is in foster care near Gosford, NSW (Central Coast) and is available for adoption interstate to dry regions for his skin.
Thor's adoption fee is $400 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping and registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Thor has atopic dermatitis, which is an allergic skin condition. He is currently on a grain and meat free diet to eliminate any food allergies. His vet thinks his allergy may be pollen related as well. It would be best for Thor to live in a dry or arid area, away from excessive pollen. Thor needs a forever family who are willing to look after his medical needs and ensure he has an appropriate diet.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
