About Gemma (adopted 14/11/14) ~ red kelpie
Meet Gemma, 10 month old, female, red kelpie x. Super sweet and so gentle! She loves to be with people and other dogs. She is great with kids. She is gentle with our 4 year old and a 7 year old and doesn't jump on them.
Gemma is super smart and quick to learn. She can sit, wait for her food and shake hands. She is ok on a lead but can be quite focused when there is something she wants to sniff. She needs more practice with returning when called before she can be off lead. Gemma would love to go to dog training lessons and I'm sure she would be the star of the class!
Gemma will need a well fenced yard as she might be tempted to go off and explore if given the opportunity. \ She was a little unsure about the lake but with a little more experience I think she'll soon enjoy going for a swim.
All round, Gemma is a great dog! She is an active bread so will need a home where she is taken for a walk or run every day and her brain is engaged with training, play and toys. After a bit of fun, Gemma loves nothing more than to cuddle up with you on the sofa or just to be with you. She needs to be allowed inside because it gets very lonely outside.
For more information or to meet Gemma, please contact her foster carer Kerri on 02 4953 7662 or 0420 303 243 or email planetkerri01@hotmail.com. Gemma is in foster care in Cardiff, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Gemma's adoption fee is only $400 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
