About Dragon
Dragon is hilarious. Although he may look a little unusual when you first meet him, when you get to know him you will forget all about his funny little face and be totally distracted by his hilarious, affectionate personality.
When Dragon was transferred to our care, the pound didn't think we'd be able to save him. We took him to a specialist vet, who also suggested euthanasia might be the kindest option. But once you get to know Dragon and realize how full of life he is, you'll understand why we knew we had to at least try to save him and give him a chance of a better life! We are so glad we did, because Dragon is one of the happiest dogs you'll ever meet!
Despite his deformity, he loves to eat. We've worked out that a slow feed bowl stops the food from sliding around and he eats really well from one of these bowls.
Dragon loves everyone. He loves dogs. He loves cats. He loves people. He loves life! Dragon will run up and lick everyone he meets, no matter the species. He'd love to have a doggy playmate, and he is exceptionally good with children. We took him out to Petbarn to buy him some treats last week and he spent about 20 minutes rolling around on the floor with a child who had come up to play with him.
Dragons favourite thing in the world is water. Give him a puddle and you have a happy dog. Give him a bowl of water and soon you'll all be wearing it! Dragon would be in bliss if he had a family who'd take him to the beach or let him play with the hose in the back yard!
Dragon is being fostered on the inner northside of Brisbane.
We are looking for a confident and experienced owner for Dragon. Now that he is healthy and happy, he benefits a great deal from regular exercize and has begun some basic training. He is learning how to interact properly with other dogs (previously his reaction to new dogs has been to run up to them and lick them all over!) and he is walking well on the lead. Dragons perfect family are one who will continue to give him some training and boundaries so that he can finally have some stability and be a normal little dog!

Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Moorooka or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
We still can't explain what happened to Dragon. Either he was born with a severely deformed mouth, or he has suffered a trauma that has badly broken his jaw, and not received treatment so it has healed all wrong. Dragons mouth is like a V-shape, and when he came to us it was horridly infected. He had one of the biggest dental surgeries our vets have ever done - it took two experienced vets three and a half hours to clean up his mouth, debride the dead tissue and clean his teeth.
He spent 48 hours in hospital after surgery having pain relief and close monitoring. Then, he was fine! He literally seemed to sit up in bed one morning, declare that his sickness was in the past and he just dived right into life again!
