About Pixie (On Trial 24/10/14) ~ Maltese, 4yo
Pixie is an adorable, fluffy, Maltese, 4 years old. She would be perfectly suited to an retired person who is home often or an older family. Pixie is easy maintenance, happy to follow you around and cuddle whenever she gets a chance.
Pixie enjoys a walk, long or short, greets other dogs in a friendly manner and is becoming increasingly confident when meeting new adults.
When she came to me Pixie was shy, had a history of being punished, and growled and barked at new people who came to the house. Now after a month she is relaxed, friendly and a constant companion. She is taking medication for her anxiety (not expensive) and this has worked a treat. She greets me with the biggest smile and welcome when I come home. She loves my grandchildren and their adult parents.
Pixie used to be a barker, particularly at the front door, but now she rarely barks and knows the rules about barking. She needs time to become friendly with visiting adults and will need further training to accept other people into the home. There are strategies in place which Pixie knows and understands when visitors come to the house.
She recently visited the vet and had some teeth removed, now she has nice clean teeth and fresh breath. Pixie enjoys a bath and is easy to handle when brushing. She has a non-shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep her comfortable and beautiful.
Pixie is an inside dog and needs to be welcome inside at all times and to sleep inside. She would be best suited as an only dog and pet, although she gets on well with my dog and my family's dogs. Not suited to children under 12.
If you are looking for a fluffy, lovable companion and are prepared to spend some time training her, then Pixie could be the dog for you.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
