About Silver (On Trial 25/10/14) ~ Maltese x
If you're looking for an affectionate companion and someone to join you on your daily walk then Silver, a 3 year old, female, Maltese cross is the perfect fit for you. She will adapt quickly in to any family from day one, just as she has done with her foster family. Her love and devotion to her owner make her the perfect family pet.
Silver shows no signs of separation anxiety. \ She is a confident, well balanced little princess who has no behavioural issues. She is toilet trained and even trained herself to use the doggie door. She walks well on a lead, and travels in the car easily. She has been used to living with other pets here and has become a favourite with everyone who comes into contact with her.
Silver enjoys other dogs and is ever ready for a play or run. She would greatly benefit from a household where she has another dog to run around the yard with if you are not home. She could easily suit a no pet household as long as she went to a family who were home a lot and could give her the attentive lifestyle she deserves by providing lots of love and cuddles. She will return it tenfold. Silver came from a home where there were cats and other dogs so my assumption is she should be fine with both, but certainly a meet and greet would reassure.
Prior to coming in to care, Silver missed out on basic training. She understands basic commands like “come” but would benefit from time and effort being put in to give her some extra training. She thrives on praise and food rewards and relishes any opportunity for a challenge and learning.
Silver will bark if there is something unusual happening but is not a nuisance by any means. She doesn't chew things, but does like to mouth on your hand sometimes, like a puppy would and she will need to be trained not to do this just like a puppy would. I have been training her and she has learned so much already.
She loves her food and her favourite is meaty brisket bones, though she eats dry kibble as well as sardines. She has a low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep her comfortable and beautiful.
Silver has a free run of her foster home and has access to outside at all times via a doggie door and comes and goes as suits. She is an inside dog and sleeps inside and this will need to be continued in her forever home. She is a smart dog and I've no hesitation in saying she will quickly learn the routine of your household.
This darling little girl is simply delightful. She has the most beautiful eyes. All she needs now is a loving, caring home and she will shower you with love, guaranteed.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
