About Opie ~ Shih Tzu x (On Trial 18/10/14)
Opie is an adorable, 10 month old, Shih Tzu x. He loves company and attention. He is still only a young puppy at heart. He loves to play and can outlast the kids and other dogs. He plays with children of all ages and with other dogs big or small. He is also great with our cat, and is not bothered by at all.
Opie loves the beach and laying out in the yard in the sun. He will let you know if someone or somedog is walking past your yard. He is an indoor dog and needs to be allowed to come in the house and be part of the family. He sleeps inside with his doona.
Opie hasn't had a great deal of training so he'll need someone willing to teach him the basics including how to walk nicely on lead and not jump up on people. He is not used to be left home alone and will bark, so he needs a home with someone who doesn't work.
Opie has a low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful.
Opie would be happy in a home with plenty of company, with other dogs or someone who is home a lot and someone who will enjoy taking him for a daily walk and maybe weekend outings. He's an young, gentle, fun-loving little man just ready to be your new addition.
For more information or to meet Opie, please contact his foster carer Alison on 0422 596 774. Opie is in foster care in Swansea, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle).
Opie's adoption fee is only $500 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
