About Melvin Fox
My name is Melvin and those who know and love me say I am a sweet old soul. I might be blind and have wobbly old legs, but it doesn't slow me down - my nose is fierce! My favourite things in life are love and pats and if you will let me on your couch or in your bed I will snuggle all day!
I came to the team at Chihuahua Rescue Queensland after spending quite some time at the RSPCA shelter. I didn't like it much there, it was scary and I couldn't see what was going on around me so it made me pretty depressed. I've been in foster care for over 6 months now and I love being in a home but I'd really like to have a forever home of my own.
I like other dogs - I was even fostered with a silly puppy for several months. I don't do much running around but I'll play a few games when I'm in the mood. I'm used to living with children but I don't like the feral or rough types.
My foster home is in North Brisbane and I'd love to have some meet and greets so please read through the CRQ adoption process so that we can meet soon!
The first step in adopting a dog from Chihuahua Rescue Queensland is to fill out an expression of interest form. We encourage you to provide as much detail as possible about your family and your home as this helps us make sure we match you with the most suitable dog.
This form can be found at the following address:
http://www.emailmeform.com/builder/form/h66Ieevy7w10HeTi
Our adoption process involves:
1) Completing online application form
2) Arranging a meet and greet with the dogs foster carer, after which we ask you to take 24 hours to make a decision about whether you want to adopt this dog
3) A brief home visit and yard check from one of our volunteers
4) Adoption trial spanning four weeks.
We ask that you pay the dogs adoption fee at the beginning of the adoption trial, however this will be refunded if for any reason the dog is not working out in your home within the four week period. We offer a four week adoption trial to make sure that you have plenty of time for your new dog to settle into your home and so we can offer you full support during this period and beyond.
We offer a free health check with our vets at Indooroopilly or Moorooka vet clinic after you’ve adopted your dog and every dog in our care is up to date with all vet work.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heart worm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Melvin has had full blood tests which have revealed he is very healthy. He has also had chest xrays to check his heart, and these have shown a very healthy heart for his age.
Melvin is completely blind so will need a gentle and caring home. He also required surgery on one of his legs due to severe arthritic inflammation that was causing him pain. He will benefit from long term use of joint supplements and a high quality diet.
