About Jack the Labrador (On Trial 18/10/14)
Jack is a big, beautiful, bouncing 2 year old, purebred, yellow Labrador. He has a lovely gentle nature, is keen to learn, and responds well to training. \ Since arriving in our care he has learnt to sit (most times) and stay (sometimes). \ Jack loves to go for a walk and is in the process of learning to walk on a harness without pulling.
Jack is currently in care with 2 other dogs and has shown himself to be a perfect gentleman when waiting for food and treats and will wait until he is told before eating his dinner. Jack does not gobble his food and will permit the other dogs to share his dinner. He will even leave his food to play ball.
Jack was not house trained when he arrived but has learnt to alert you when to needing to go out to the toilet. He sleeps inside at night and he will wake you with a nudge or a lick when he needs to go out. Jack is extremely affectionate and loves getting a scratch on his belly or his ears and adores a cuddle. He is forever at our side, and likes to follow us around the house.
Jack is very well behaved inside and can even be trusted in a house alone for several hours at a time. But he is tall and can reach bench tops and will reach for food if you leave anything edible out. He IS a Labrador after all!
Jack would be best suited to a family without young children as he sometimes forgets his size and tends to jump up when excited, but we’re working on it, LOL. Playing ball is his favourite pastime and will encourage you to play with him. Jack will need a yard with a high fence as he will jump to say hello to people and/or dogs walking past. \ He is easily distracted and if he sees another dog on his walk he loses his focus. Further training can improve this.
Jack travels extremely well in a car and will jump in even when not invited. He has even jumped into the boot, anything for a day out!
Jack loves playing with the other dogs here. He would love to go to a home with another large dog for a playmate. He is very dog friendly and social. He would do best in an environment where there will be lots of stimulation and activity - dog sports would be great! Jack will need someone who will be prepared to put some time into him as he will need ongoing training. Of course he loves to curl up and have a cuddle and this gorgeous boy is going to make the perfect family member.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
