About Sahara (Trial ~19/1/15) ~ German Shepherd x
Introducing gorgeous Sahara, a 3yr old, female, German Shepherd x who will capture your heart at the very first meeting. She's a best friend, perfect companion kind of girl; a gentle, sweet natured, easy going dog who is no trouble and just wants to be with you and give you all her love.
I've never heard her growl or bark at all, not even when strangers come to the house. She's a companion rather than a guard dog and equally happy either chilling out with her human, or playing and is super playful. She is still working out how to play fetch. She chases the ball then pounces on it but only brings it back to me occasionally, although she will always bring it back when my dad throws it.
Sahara will soon be tested with children, but judging by her nature, I'm sure she will be great. She has been tested with small dogs and she loves them. Our Chihuahua is 11 yrs old, not super playful and sometimes a little hostile (little dog syndrome) but Sahara still wants to play with him. They're adorable. She play bows at him and he chases her around the yard. If he doesn't chase her straight away she follows him around and keeps bowing until he does. She gets super excited when she sees our dam and tentatively goes in paw deep. I'm sure once it's not so cold she'll be jumping right in.
At the moment, we're working on teaching her basic commands and because she's smart and eager to please, with a little extra training, she will master it all. She's quickly worked out 'sit', but still needs a bit of training with 'stay' and 'come'. If you use a firm voice she returns when called, although she's not a dog who runs from you anyway, and always stays where she can see you.
Sahara walks well on a lead, although a bit excited at the very start, she settles down quickly and walks calmly along with you, while wearing a big happy smile and enjoying every minute! She's loveable, cuddly and would be a fantastic family dog.
Because Sahara loves company so much, she needs a home where she is allowed inside each day to bond with her family. If everyone works full time then she would prefer to have a doggy companion to keep her company. Sahara would love to meet you!

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
