About Cherry Pie (on trial 27/12/14) ~ cattle dog x Jrt
Introducing "Cherry Pie" - an incredibly sweet 6 month old, female, red cattle dog x Jack Russell (medium sized). Cherry Pie was picked up off the street by a ranger at a young age so we can't be sure of her exact age and breed. One thing is for sure; she is 100%, pure bred, adorable!
Cherry Pie is currently living with 3 other dogs (1 large and 2 small) which is just great as it means that she has 3 playmates to wrestle with! Cherry Pie LOVES to play, so it would be best if she was adopted out to a home with another playful dog. CP also currently lives with 2 cats, and although she would love to play with them too, the feeling isn't mutual.
Cherry Pie has learnt simple commands such as "sit", "stay", "come" and "no" but will need further training so will only be adopted to someone who will continue her training. CP has only just started going for walks on a harness and lead loves it! But she does tend to pull a bit. Some training can resolve that. We recommend positive reinforcement training classes for all dogs.
Cherry Pie tends to like the sound of her own voice, and will let you know when someone approaches the house. A home with another laid back dog would encourage CP to save her voice for only special occasions.
Cherry Pie does not currently live with children but has been a perfect little lady when she has interacted with children during outings.
Cherry Pie is actually quite a shy and timid girl and relies heavily on her foster sister Zara the Wolfhound for security and comfort. CP will need to go to a home where her family acknowledges her timid tendencies and will help her build her confidence with positive reinforcement training and a calm environment. Due to this, Cherry Pie would be best suited to an active single, couple, or a family with children over 8 years old. CP needs to be allowed inside when people are home and to sleep inside. She currently sleeps all night in the lounge room and is no trouble at all.
Cherry Pie is currently left at home all day long while her foster mum works (full time) but is OK with that as she has other dogs to keep her company and gets a big walk each morning.
Cherry Pie undertakes the usual puppy shenanigans such as a bit of recreational gardening and taste-testing but would not be considered a destructive dog - just normal for a puppy! Cherry Pie has a bit of a shoe fetish just like all young ladies but she plays hide-and-seek with them as opposed to eating them (she has NEVER chewed a shoe).
Cherry Pie is currently in care in Newcastle NSW. For more information please contact Siobhan on ph: 0408603156 or email jandspurins@bigpond.com
Cherry Pie's adoption fee is only $400 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
