About Oscar
Oscar was surrendered to CRQ by his heartbroken owner. Unfortunately, due to a marriage breakup, their owner was unable to keep her dogs. Oscar and his little mate Deedee won our hearts immediately. As soon as they stepped out of the car, Oscar was playful
Within just an hour or so of being in our care, we realized something was very wrong with Oscar. He had a limp and his old owner claimed he just had deformed bones. It was obvious he could not place any weight at all on one of his front legs, so we took him straight to our vet for a second opinion.
Our vet found that Oscar had severe pain in his leg, and xrays revealed a terribly diseased joint that could not be repaired. Oscar had two options: either daily pain relief for the rest of his life (medication which would in time be detrimental to his liver and kidney function) or amputate the limp. It's a huge decision to remove a dogs leg, but our vet advised us this was the best way to free Oscar from pain.
We went ahead with the surgery just 24 hours after Oscar was surrendered to us, and we knew it was the right decision when Oscar was sitting up and even walking around just hours after surgery. Being free of his painful leg has changed his life.
Now that Oscar is recovering, he is enjoying going for some walks. He loves lying around in the sun, eating his treats and sunbaking. He is a cheeky little thing and loves a game, but is also just as happy cuddled in your lap.

Medical notes
Oscar has been desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. He has had his teeth cleaned and rotten teeth removed. He has had his front left leg amputated and will undergo acupuncture as part of his recovery.
Oscar suffers from a condition called Dry Eye which means that he needs to have eye drops to protect his eyes from become dry and sore. We will provide plenty of eye drops to his new family to get them started!
Oscar had full blood tests done to determine his health as he is a senior dog, and these came back normal. Hee has been tested for heartworm (result was negative) and treated regularly with parasite and flea prevention.
