About Jack the Cavoodle (On Trial 17/9/14)
Jack is a 2 to 3 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Poodle ("Cavoodle"). He is a healthy young man and loves to be involved in your day to day activities. \ He is very curious and will follow you around the house. He is not fazed by the unusual things like the robot vacuum cleaner or loud noises.
Jack is excellent with teenage children and adults, and will jump on our laps for a cuddle at any opportunity. He gets along with other dogs and just wants to run and play. On walks he is not frightened when he is barked at by much larger dogs. As yet he has not met a cat but I’m guessing he will definitely take notice of our feline friends.
Jack will use a doggy door to go outside to do his business. He is a very bright boy. He knows the commands ‘Sit’ ‘down’ and ‘off’ and is responding to ‘wait’ quite well. Jack has a healthy appetite and will work for food treats so could be easily taught many other commands using reward based training.
Jack will fall asleep next to you when you are sitting. At night he sleeps in a dog bed or he often just moves to the lounge. He really enjoys his walk and does tend to pull the lead a little in his excitement, but he is excellent in that he generally will stick to one side of you and will not trip you up.
When left alone at home Jack just sleeps with the other dogs. He has shown little interest in dog toys but is quite possessive with his bed and at times will drag it from room to room because he loves it so much. Perhaps he never had a comfy bed of his own. He spent several weeks in a cold pound so having some luxuries is very valuable to him.
Jack rarely barks. Not much phases him. He likes to scratch his back on the lounge or carpet and does a little growly ‘this feels soooooo good' thing. He likes to pick his dry kibble up from his bowl and place a mouthful on the floor next to the bowl and eat it from there. These are some one of the traits that makes him such a special boy. He loves loves loves a bath, and loves to play fetch and brings the tennis ball back and places it into your hand! Awesome dog!
Being knee height, Jack is an ideal sized dog to have indoors and would not be easily tripped over by an older person. He is definitely an indoor dog and must have access inside when people are home and sleep inside.
Jack had to get his hair cut quite short when he came out of the pound but it will grow back during the next few months to a soft wavy coat. His low shedding coat needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful. He does love being brushed! He would be good for anyone who requires a low allergen dog.
Jack's ideal home would be with adults who can spend time with him and give him lots of pats and love. A small fully fenced yard would be sufficient as long as he was taken for a walk every day. He does not understand small children so a home with young children would not be ideal. Jack is such a beautiful boy and would make an excellent addition to a family with older teenage children or even a more mature couple wanting to share their time with a four legged furbaby. His Ideal foster parents would need to be committed to ongoing training so Jack can be the very best companion for them.
For more information or to meet Jack, please contact his foster carer Tracey by email hilleightee@gmail.com. \ Jack is in foster care in Kurri Kurri, NSW (west of Newcastle).

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
