About Abbie (On Trial ~ 25/9/14 )~ kelpie x cattle pup
Abbie is a beautiful, 6 month old, kelpie x cattle dog, that is more kelpie in nature then she is cattle dog. She is incredibly attentive and will look to you for direction. Out of the three dogs we have at the moment she is the only one that sits at the door. You can be confident she will follow instructions even with distractions around. Obedience training is something dogs like her thrive on and is necessary to prevent destructive behaviour developing.
Abbie is an active girl that loves going for walks on lead or off lead in appropriate locations such as dog parks. On lead she walks right next to you, will not pull or drag and will sit when crossing roads if you instruct her to. Off lead, Abbie will stay close to your side and will come back straight away when called.
Her favourite things to do are going on adventures with you no matter where you are going. She has taken a liking to the occasional bite of a cheeseburger! The highlight for me was seeing Abbie play on the banks of the Hunter River and jump in to the water to fetch a stick that the other dogs always fail to retrieve.
Being a kelpie, she would be most suited to a person or family with older kids that have time to train and play with her. Being still a puppy, she can be a little bit nippy when playing so she probably would not suit toddlers or young children until she matures. Cats are very interesting to Abbie as a curiosity but nothing more. If you do have cats she will definitely snack out on their litter box if it is not secure.
Abbie is probably better suited to other male dogs with similar energy levels.
Abbie absolutely adores a cuddle and would need to hang out with you inside the house for at least part of each day or evening. She definitely prefers to sleep inside. She fur is short so she needs to wear a coat on cold nights. She is predominately black with a streak of white between her eyes and cattle dog socks for feet. I think she will grow into a medium sized dog but she is on the small side as far as kelpie pups go.
She has lived with us for three months and from our experience she needs daily love. If you have the time to let her into your heart then I feel she will be the most rewarding dog you will ever have.
For more information or to meet Abbie, please contact her foster carer Alana on 0433 854 893. Abbie is in foster care in Branxton, NSW (near Maitland, west of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Abbie's adoption fee is only $450 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
