Benson

Benson is a 6 year old German Short Haired Pointer who was sadly surrendered due to a change of circumstances with his owner.

He is the sweetest boy with a beautiful soft and gentle personality. He knows how to sit and loves to 'shake' (regularly just putting his paw on your knee). He is generally fine with other dogs and living alongside the resident dog in his foster home well. He is amazing around kids. With his size we were a little sceptical (being able to knock them over so easily), but he has been in foster with 3 kids under 10 years old and hasn't knocked them over, jumped on them or anything alike- he's been perfect!

He very easily develops an attachment to a specific person (master) and is very loyal. He loves to be inside with the family and sneaking up on the couch for a cuddle.

Benson needs a super committed and dedicated owner who will have lots of time to spend training him and helping him understand the rules. He needs strict routine and boundaries put in place to help him feel comfortable.

Benson LOVES car rides and doesn't mind a bath.

For the first week of coming into care, Benson suffered from anxiety (from being unsure, a new environment etc) and needed a lot of time and comfort to help him settle. Being a typically nervous breed of dog didn't help, but he is getting better. (Please read medical notes)

He needs one on one training with a dog trainer to help build his obedience, confidence and curve these anxious behaviours- his new owner must be willing to commit to this.

With high energy levels of the breed, Benson needs daily exercise and tiring out to keep him stimulated and happy. We'd love to see him rehomed with another dog, but this isn't essential.

Benson cannot be rehomed with cats or pocket pets. (he is OK with them, but will chase)

Although Benson does need a lot of time and commitment, we have absolutely no doubt he will make an amazing addition to someone's life bringing much happiness and with all his goofyness.. much laughter too!

Benson needs:
*A strong owner (he is 27kg of strength)
*Lots of dedication and commitment from new owner
*A large back yard with high/secure fences
*Daily exercise and stimulating environment
*Preferably a home without cats or pocket pets, and with another dog
*Inside/outside dog (must sleep inside)

A home/yard check will be completed.
