Sapphire *On Trial in Her New Home*

*SAPPHIRE IS CURRENTLY TRIALING HER NEW HOME - NO MORE ENQUIRIES/APPLICATIONS PLEASE* This little bundle of cuteness is Sapphire though we tend to call her ‘Princess Saffy’ as she’s a bit of a diva who came from a home where she was a rather spoilt only dog, so it’s all about her!

Recently surrendered to SARG, as a change in her owners situation meant they could no longer keep her, Sapphire’s a funny little dog who quickly became protective of her foster home and has taken up the challenging role of watchdog! She is even protective of her foster family so visitors beware as you may get barked and growled at until she gets to know you which is something her carer is working on as this behaviour appears to be more out of fear than aggression, so they’re helping Saffy gain some confidence. Once Sapphire knows you mean no harm she is quite submissive and will sit on your lap for hours on end making her a terrific little lapdog. She’ll also be your shadow and follow you around the house as you go about your daily business as she loves being close by her humans.

Gorgeous Sapphire is fine most of the time around her carers other dogs though she tends to get jealous when they get attention, so we reckon she’d be best rehoused as an only dog with retirees or someone working from home or even a stay-at-home mum, so that her humans were never too far away. She loves children preferably the non-boisterous kind, so they don’t scare this little petal. Saffy is also quite playful and enjoys her doggie toys especially her teddy-bears from her previous home and likes to play fetch as you can see in her video. She tends to harass the households cats so a home without one would be the go.

Sapphire came to us with a ‘cherry eye’ which our vets surgically repaired. It still requires some ointment to help with the healing process but Saffy is a very good patient. \ According to the paperwork she arrived with she’s supposed to be a Maltese x Shih Tzu though her hair doesn’t grow like one – we doubt she’ll ever need a clip – which has led us to believe there must be another breed in her such as Papillon. She doesn’t shed much hair and should only need the occasional brush and bath to keep her coat in tip-top condition.

Clever Saffy is toilet-trained and sleeps inside at night, which we’d want to see continued in her forever home. She is good on a lead and enjoys getting out and about. \ A secure yard, daily walks or runs around the backyard, chicken necks to chew on and toys to play with will make her very happy indeed!
