About Karlee
At first glance, Karlee doesn't quite fit in to our pack of Chihuahuas, but as soon as you get to know her, you'll understand why we couldn't leave her behind at the pound. Karlee had done her time, and no one was interested in adopting her, so her only safe option was a rescue group, and we were the only group with room to take her. So we did.
Karlee is what we call a pseudo-chihuahuas: a little dog that needed our help, regardless of it's breed. We might be called Chihuahua Rescue Qld, but if there are other little dogs that we have room to save, we will always help where we can. We love our pseudo-Chihuahuas just as much as our real Chihuahuas!
Karlee is a border collie crossed with some little breeds - maybe Jack Russell? Who really knows. All we know is she's like a miniature Border Collie on short little legs.
Karlee is an old girl, she was surrendered to the pound by her owners who didn't want her anymore. Her white fur was stained with blood from the terrible flea infestation she had, and her black fur was dull and dirty. When Karlee first came to us, she was so anaemic that her blood test results were some of the worst our vets had ever seen - at one point we thought she may have a blood disorder.
However, Karlee was put into a loving foster home, the parasite infestations were treated and we bathed her again and again to remove the blood stains from her coat. Within weeks, a new dog emerged! Karlee went from being quiet, depressed and weak, to being happy, playful and strong again.
Karlee loves to go for walks - her foster carers take her to Toohey Forest regularly, and she loves to walk through the bush. As she has re-gained her strength, she has begun playing more and more, and she is currently being fostered with two large active dogs, who she just adores.
Karlee is a darling, she would be perfect for any family. She is used to living with other dogs and various sizes, cats, chickens, guinea pigs and kids.
Karlee needs a loving retirement home, so that the end years of her life can be so much greater then the early years.
Medical notes
Karlee is completely deaf - but don't let this put you off, she copes really well. She is a quiet old girl, but will alert her foster family if she needs to go outside to the toilet.
Karlee has been very sick with a bad flea and worm infestation, but she has regained her health. It is important her owners keep her flea and worm prevention up to date in future.
Karlee has had her teeth cleaned and a few harmless lumps removed. She is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.
Karlee is enjoying a varied diet to help her regain her health, including some supplements for her joints and coat, plus some raw meat and good quality Royal Canin biscuits.
